Hello and Welcome. Please do have a look around and get a sense of whether I am the right therapist for you. If you are finding things a bit of a struggle at the moment then speaking with someone whom you feel comfortable and connected with is the most important start for your journey into Counselling. You may be grieving the loss of a loved family member, your job, a pet, or a relationship. You may feel anxious, depressed or worried about situations or issues in your life. You might feel ‘not good enough’ or perhaps you are going through work, identity or life changes and family struggles that are confusing and overwhelming.

I am a person-centred counsellor, but also incorporate other techniques from other approaches into my practice. I believe that each client is unique therefore my approach is tailored to them. I hold most my experience with children and young people therefore my way of working is different with them but I also ensure their individuality is taken into consideration within our therapeutic relationship. I have had lots of neurodiverse clients and I ensure they are heard and we build our relationship in a way that helps them.

Struggling to cope with negative emotions can feel very isolating and, by the nature of some problems, guilt and shame can make us feel stigmatised and prevent us reaching out for support even when its not our fault. People come to counselling for all kinds of reasons from childhood trauma to life events as adults such as divorce, bereavement and stress and what they all have in common is a desire to feel better and begin to enjoy life. Some people find they use alcohol or drugs in an attempt to cope with their feelings but inventively this creates more problems

Hi, my name is Alexa and thank you for taking the step in seeking help. I know counselling can be very daunting for some people but rest assured I'm here to help put you at ease. Counselling can be a journey of self discovery, growth and finding the real you. I work using the holistic approach, you will be the one to talk about what you want, in a safe environment and I will listen. As a busy professional you may feel you don't have time to be stressed and anxious yet you do. You feel under pressure, can't take time off and don't like letting others down. Many of my clients come to me with similar concerns. They often say "I thought I was stronger than this". When we start to talk about what lead them to make an appointment it turns out there have been a number of life-changing experiences that haven't been dealt with. Then something else happens that just 'tripped' them up and they now feel overwhelmed and unable to cope. I help them lead a happier, healthier life where they feel more confident and in control.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
