Counselling in Stroud
We all carry with us a weight of experience that is repressed, denied, distorted or simply misunderstood. We construct narratives that help us to ignore or avoid the parts of our lives that might be unwelcome or unwanted. We struggle with anger, anxiety, guilt, self-loathing and resentment at a huge personal cost. Through talking, in the presence of real listening, we are able to gently explore the truths that have eluded us and are left feeling lighter. This unfurling of what we truly feel and experience sets in motion the life changing process of becoming; of returning to the person we were all along.

We all face difficult times in life, in fact I think we could just say, life is difficult. In counselling you will be thinking with another person about how you manage life’s struggles, how you relate to friends and family and how your present situation may be related to your past experiences. Talking and thinking with another can bring about a new perspective to old problems or worries and help you find new ways of approaching things. in. In my experience even small changes can have a very positive impact. Speaking to someone might feel a bit daunting to begin with but I find people soon settle in.

Do you find yourself struggling to trust others and are holding back from meaningful connections? These concerns may be the result of unresolved trauma. What is Trauma? Trauma occurs precisely when an event is overwhelming to a point where a person is unable to rationalize, defend, process or accept what is happening to them or someone close to them. Trauma fragments the brain’s ability to make sense and therefore move on from the onslaught. The event when it occurs overwhelms and drives us to our basic survival responses. When the traumatic incident occurred did you find yourself unable to move? www.honouringrief.com
