For some, life throws us a curveball and often when we’re least expecting it. Others may feel that pressures have been building over a long period of time. We can face challenges and get stuck which sometimes can be overwhelming. Depression, anxiety, stresses and issues in life may lead you to needing a person to talk to who is neutral, non-judgmental, empathetic and a good listener. Your wellbeing is important to me so I will treat you with the upmost respect and work with you to help achieve your goals. Based in Eccleshall I am close to Stafford, Stone, Market Drayton, Loggerheads, Stoke, Newport and Telford.

Do you identify with the following: I just want to hide under the bed covers. Why am I so worthless? I’m just hopeless. I don’t know who I am meant to be? Why can’t I cope? Everything is getting on top of me. What is it about me that doesn’t fit? Why does my child keep doing that? I don’t want to see people. Why am I just not good enough? I get so stressed and anxious about life. What is wrong with me? I need to talk to somebody. At Cherish the Pearl, I see you as the pearl and will value you as a person, acknowledging and recognizing your journey as well as helping to work with your individuality and beauty.

Therapy is individual, not off the peg… When we feel that those around us do not understand us, or do not accept us, it can feel like a lonely, uphill struggle. I have a long-held interest in what makes us all tick, and the strategies that we can access to better manage the ups and downs in our lives. It has become evident to me, through many life changes, that we work much better together than we do alone.

My philosophical approach is trauma informed with the belief that the importance of therapeutic relationship is at the core of successful therapeutic work. I work in a relational way with clients. I believe that having a safe harbour to express the unexpressed, connect to the disconnected and feel the unfelt is at the heart of healing our inner wounds. As your therapist I will not give advice or tell you what to do. I will listen empathically to your concerns and experiences. I will work in collaboration with you to explore your experience, empower you to find your own solutions and build coping skills that work for you.

Hello and welcome! I understand how difficult it can be to embark on a journey of self healing and discovery such as counselling- whether you are ready to pick up the phone right this second or you are just browsing for now, the fact that you have made it this far is a huge step. I believe that no two individuals are the same and my practice reflects this.

We all struggle to make sense of experiences at times, for example, when our life is in transition as we are leaving home or taking on new caring responsibilities. As a counsellor I can offer the opportunity to talk in confidence. I have worked in mental health for over 20 years and have trained as a social worker as well as a counsellor. Social networks and our sense of connection, can contribute to our emotional resilience and ability to face life's challenges. I can help you find a broader perspective and your own way forward.

I work in a person-centred manner which means that I value building a positive relationship with clients; working to create a safe and comfortable therapeutic environment. This means that I want you to feel able to talk and express yourself about anything that may be troubling you. We talk about whatever you chose, and you can do so without fear of judgement. This enables you to become more comfortable with things as you discuss your thoughts freely, giving you an opportunity to consider things from different perspectives and over time building your confidence to explore different options and possibilities that are open to you.

What is the most effective treatment for autism?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.
How does ABA work?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.
How does treatment for autism work?
Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.
How long does therapy for autism take?
Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
