As an experienced and sympathetic BACP (reg) Person Centred Counsellor I understand it can be daunting finding a Counsellor and hope I can help. I have extensive training and experience working in agencies, schools and private practice with a variety of clients. Adults, Couples, Teens and Children helping with a variety of issues. These include anxiety and depression, relationship problems, loss, low self esteem, bullying, domestic violence and abuse. I believe that the most important thing is the counselling relationship and strive to provide a safe environment in which you can be yourself and explore what is going on for you.

I fully understand how challenging life can be at times, and sometimes things can feel overwhelming. Our worries can create feelings of anxiety and depression, which can in turn make us feel isolated, alone and misunderstood. Having a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to talk through whatever is on your mind can be incredibly powerful in enabling you to unburden and begin to heal. By being truly listened to, perhaps for the first time, I believe you can start to make sense of your experiences and find solutions to whatever is troubling you.

Well done on taking the most difficult decision to access counselling. Sometimes we feel totally overwhelmed by the challenges in life and seeking professional help seems like a momentous decision. However, when in crisis we need more than talking to our friends and family who may not always know how to listen without giving well meaning advice or simply may not know what to say. You may be feeling isolated and lonely, frightened or anxious. You may have temporarily lost your way. I will ensure that you are carefully listened to and I will accept you as you are, without judgement. Together we will find a way forward.

Support, warmth, understanding and acceptance, together with a professional service, this is what I base my counselling practice on. Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, frustrating, unfair...even cruel, throwing so many unexpected hurdles in our way. Struggling can be a lonely, isolating place and sometimes we need more than just talking with family or friends. I offer a calm, confidential, non-judgemental space to truly be heard and listened to in which you can explore your struggles or confusions and, hopefully, enable you to recover your own perspective and clarity surrounding whatever difficulties are impacting your life.

My therapeutic approach is based on the belief that each of us carries within ourselves the wisdom and tools to initiate our own healing process, the therapeutic relationship then becomes a facilitation of a return to self. Through my own journey of recovery and successfully sustaining sobriety I have become a believer in being able to reinvent your life. To address addiction is often very difficult and takes incredible courage. But the gifts of recovery from addiction are tremendous. As your therapist I will quickly identify the causes, conditions and underlying concerns that are causing your pain.

You may be struggling, feeling stuck and need a place to talk things through or unravel your thoughts, to gain some clarity or strategies to find a way forward. Talking to a counsellor can be helpful to gain perspective and insight into the issues that you are currently experiencing. Through the counselling process I have supported clients to develop or re-discover their self-belief, confidence or purpose and counselling can help to bring calm, balance or motivation where life may have become overwhelming. Feel free to contact me to see if I may be the right counsellor for you.

Perhaps something has shifted in your thoughts/feelings/behaviour that’s uncomfortable, or maybe you’ve decided to explore a long-standing issue. I help my clients achieve their therapeutic goals either by discussing their current or past issues through counselling/psychotherapy or some clients also opt to have hypnotherapy with me too (you can read about that on my website). I offer empathy, confidentiality, safety and opportunity to explore their feelings in a therapeutic relationship. I'm not here to pass judgement or advise but instead I'm here to help you navigate the highs and lows.

Hi there. Thank you for looking at my profile.I specialise in working with adults who are struggling to accept and come to terms with potential life changing neurological conditions such as stroke (including aphasia), TIA’s, Parkinsons, epilepsy and those who are neurodiverse. It can be difficult to talk to those close to us for a variety of reasons but perhaps it’s just that sometimes we need to be heard without judgement or fear of hurting our loved ones.

I have over 30 years experience of working with children, young adults and parents, firstly as a teacher and then as a therapist, supervisor and clinical lead within the NHS. Perhaps school feels hard; sticking to rules is tricky; making friends is a struggle - all of these things can be explored in therapy. I have a real understanding of how growing up can sometimes feel as if it needs to be navigated, rather than enjoyed. I also work with parents, appreciating the struggles (and joys) of life with children. I am experienced in working with neuro-divergence (ASC, ADHD). Alongside therapy I also teach counselling at University.

I have over 18 years of experience working with children, young people and adults. I work in person, in my own therapeutic space in the North-West, and anywhere by Video. Whilst my training in the Person-centred approach underpins all my work, I am also trained in CBT. I started working with children as a primary school teacher and now as a therapist, I work in one of the leading centres for counselling children and young adults in the North-West. Alongside my therapeutic work, I am a college lecturer helping enable trainee counsellors to achieve their first professional qualification.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
