My aim is to offer you a safe space to explore whatever may be troubling you in confidence. Whether you are facing relationship issues, work problems, low self esteem, stress, anxiety or just feeling unhappy, my role is to neither judge or give advice but to enable you to draw on your inner resources to feel empowered and in control of your lives. In order for therapy to take place, you must feel able to talk openly to the therapist and have a sense of a good enough connection with him or her. That's why, more than my skills and qualification, I trust my ability to reach out to you in distress and begin therapy.

It takes a great deal of strength to seek help and to begin to work through personal difficulties. I take great care to provide a supportive and confidential space, in which I can listen to your concerns without judgment, and work with you to help you to overcome your difficulties. Perhaps you are looking for support in dealing with a specific mental health concern like anxiety or depression, or perhaps you are looking for support in finding a greater sense of balance in your life or in creating a richer, more meaningful life for yourself.

Have you been entertaining the idea of therapy for some time, or is this an impulse search? Have you asked yourself questions such as: “Why me?”, “Who am I?”, “How did I get here?”, “Is this the rest of my life?”, "Is this really happening to me", "Why does this always happen to me?", “How do I get where I want to be?” Have you or others have labelled yourself as "down", "depressed", "anxious" or "stressed"? Are you worried about feeling a certain way, or not living the life you were meant to live? Do you carry on your shoulders more than you bargained for and feel you can't share with anyone? I am here for you.

My mantra, "Once we face the things we fear, they no longer have power over us!" So well done for taking your initial steps towards change. We get stuck within our own worlds (especially our past), fearful that we will not be heard or even understood. The 'noises' within us remain unheard setting the tone to overthink/discredit our way own way of being. We find sanctuary in others peoples words, feelings, emotions, thoughts & continue to dishonor our own as we are fearful for what we mite have to face - demeaning our needs seem so much easier than confront them?

Life can take unpredictable turns, leaving us in pain and disbelief. At times we get over it. At other times we dwell in there for a long time as if there was no way out. It may feel lonely and unexplainable and yet time passes by. My name is Erika Mancini. I am a Relational Transactional Analysis Psychotherapist and EMDR Therapist. I specialise in trauma, childhood trauma, PTSD, Complex PTSD, anxiety, depression and relationships. I believe we are all shaped by the relationships we experienced while growing up and that this can sometimes result in adaptations or coping mechanisms that may prevent us from becoming who we really are.

I wonder if you have been feeling sad, stressed or anxious? Have these feelings been with you for a long time? Are you wondering when they will reappear? It’s like dreading what is around the corner and finding it hard to enjoy or feel good in the present. Other people look like they’re having fun but your world is a shade of grey. Things that you loved doing no longer give you happiness and it's hard to concentrate. At times it takes lots of energy to go out or spend time with people who care about you. Your confidence and ability to cope disappear as you become stuck and the people around you become as worn down as you feel.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
