I am always mindful of the fact that taking the first steps towards counselling can be the hardest. Actually admitting you need some help. Finding the right person to walk with you on this journey is I believe central to the process of counselling. I am wholly committed to providing you with a safe, non-judgemental space, where you can begin to work through your difficulties. Mental health, is just like our physical health, it's variable and sometime we need help to recover, whether that be from a bereavement, anxiety, depression, long term trauma issues, etc

Perhaps you are finding life difficult at the moment and you would value help to find your way through being 'stuck'. Life can sometimes lead to emotional difficulties, feelings of stress, which affect our relationships or work. Counselling offers the opportunity to talk through your thoughts and feelings, helping you identify, explore and understand what doesn’t feel right within. The issues you are facing might be leading to low self-esteem, confusion, depression, addiction, suicidal thoughts or self-harm. Counselling can help you develop internal resources, and alternative ways of thinking to help you move forward in your life.

I am a passionate and dedicated therapist specializing in working with children and young people. With years of experience in school settings, I have seen first-hand the remarkable positive impact that comes from truly seeing and hearing young individuals. I tailor therapy to each individual's needs, incorporating therapeutic play and expressive art therapy for younger clients. My approach fosters a trusting, non-judgmental environment where clients can thrive. As a French therapist, I understand the complexity of different cultures and am respectful of that, bringing a unique perspective to my practice.

Do you feel like you're going round and round with a problem - maybe with a relationship or how you see yourself? Maybe you don't know how you want things to be, or you know what you want but can't work out how to do it, or don't have the courage to follow through? Are you constantly thinking about a particular person and wishing the situation, or one of you, could be different? Are you worried friends/family are tired of hearing about your problems? Are you feeling anxious, angry, rejected, or unimportant? Whatever your issues, I can help you talk about and process them, find solutions, and feel more at ease with yourself.

People come to talk to me for lots of reasons. Sometimes there is a defined problem, it may be longstanding or recent; it may be related to a life event or something upcoming that is raising anxiety; there may be questions or difficulties in some key relationships, or at work; it may not be clear at all, but you are experiencing unease and wish to get to the bottom of why. Coming to talk to a trained and registered psychotherapist guarantees a secure, safe and confidential space in which to explore any or all of the above, alone, as a couple or in a family group.

Is work having a detrimental impact on your mental health? It may be the nature of the work itself and you're considering a change or that the culture and specific relationships are creating stress, anxiety and low self esteem and you'd like help to reduce the impact both in the workplace and in other areas of your life. As a qualified Counsellor and Human Resources practitioner, I'm able to offer a unique service; a warm, welcoming and confidential space to talk about your problem, and an understanding of workplace culture and employment law that enables me to offer practical advice where appropriate.

Clients who can use art psychotherapy may have a wide range of difficulties, disabilities or diagnoses. These include, for example emotional, behavioural or mental health problems, PTSD, relationship issues, difficult experiences such as historical abuse or bereavement, life-limiting conditions and physical illness. It is not a recreational activity or an art lesson, although the sessions can be enjoyable. Clients do not need to have any previous experience or expertise in art so please don't be put off by the word 'art'. There is no pressure to use the art materials, sometimes just talking is enough.

It can be a daunting experience deciding to take the step into counselling, I aim to make the counselling space as comfortable as possible. As a therapist I provide a safe and confidential space where clients can open up and together we can explore the difficult feelings and emotions that may arise.  As an Integrative Psychotherapist I believe that not one type of therapy fits all, therefore bringing in techniques from different modalities of therapy, such as person-centred, CBT, Psychodynamic and Gestalt may provide clients with a greater therapeutic experience.

There is so much focus these days on "What's wrong with you" using terms such as 'depression', 'anxiety', 'disorder', rather than talking about "What happened to you?" Your mental health is much more than just a label or a diagnosis and therapy offers so much more than just talking. It can give you new understanding, new insights, a different perspective, clarity about a problem and the way forward. It can teach you skills to live your life better, teach you more healthy coping strategies or simply give you the space and time for self reflection and a place to find peace of mind.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
