Hello, I’m Rebecca and I work with people experiencing anxiety, overwhelm and perfectionism. Maybe you’re looking for help because you find yourself lying awake at night feeling worried and anxious? Perhaps you would like to make changes in your life, but you don’t know where to begin, or you’re afraid to get started because you don’t want to get it wrong? Or maybe it feels as if everything is just too much and your worries and concerns are affecting the way you live your life and your relationships?

We all experience difficult times in our lives, whether it be through trauma, loss, being diagnosed with a chronic/terminal illness, or life’s natural cycle of events. Maybe you’re not sure what’s causing you to feel like you’re struggling, sometimes we don’t know why we feel sad, angry, anxious or depressed together we can unravel things and look at how we can increase your resilience. Working in an integrative way I use different theoretical approaches to empower you to make to make the best decisions for yourself. I offer a safe therapeutic space where you can talk things over and to move forward and feel more fulfilled.

If you have a relationship issue, I may be able to help you. I work with couples and individuals for a variety reasons; stuck in a cycle of bickering, poor communication, cross cultural issues, fertility difficulties, contemplating separation or an affair. It may surprise you but I also see couples who want a 'relationship MOT', to check in before any issues present themselves. This is helpful if you plan to marry/civil partnership, starting a family, co-parenting, are 'empty nesters' or entering later stages of life.

Hello, and welcome to my profile. Making the decision to see a counsellor can take an immense amount of courage - acknowledging that you may need some help in talking through and making sense of some of the feelings causing you pain can feel a big step. There may be events, or even moments, that leave you fighting for breath. Feelings of shame or failure that you cannot seem to shift, or a sense of dread and foreboding, making everyday life a struggle. Perhaps the death of a loved one, conflict with family or friends, or a significant life change such as divorce or redundancy has caused you to feel off balance.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
