Do you have meltdowns and feel like you're losing control? Are you self harming or using behaviours that are not in your best interest? Do you have awful nightmares where you wake up in a sweat and you can't get back to sleep? Or maybe in the daytime you suddenly remember, or feel things that you can't explain? And they feel so upsetting you try anything not to have them? On the other hand, it might be 'not' remembering things that troubles you, it might be memory gaps, daydreaming, losing time or feeling unreal? Maybe the most painful thing for you is struggling with relationships, which leaves you feeling lonely and scared.

Over my time of working in a variety of counselling fields and within my own learning I've recognised the deep pattern when we can't regulate our bodies we can't regulate our minds and in turn it makes relationships, jobs and school become disturbed and often unfulfilling. This can lead to damaging behaviours in a bid to find distraction and self regulation, we can feel like we are in a loop with no way out creating further damage to our self esteem. I work to create a safe space for you to explore adverse childhood events to help you to find a path to recovery and live your best life.

Welcome. Hello, I'm Anna. I offer a warm space to be seen, heard, and where we can explore, together, your reasons for accessing Psychotherapy. I understand that we can all encounter times when life feels particularly hard and overwhelming. Perhaps you’re feeling the impact of past hurts, trauma or unresolved issues. Maybe there seems to be no reason for the difficulties and challenges you are currently experiencing, and you just need time and space to talk things through with an experienced professional. I am open to exploring how we can work together and reassure you.

Many of us experience times when we are struggling with our emotions or mental health. However sometimes this can go on for too long and it can have a big impact upon our quality of life. We might notice repeating patterns or cycles that feel hard to make sense of or change.

Are you puzzled why 'things' are not working out for you ? Do you feel 'stressed all the time ? Are you curious about why you are the person you are ? Why you live the life you do ? Is there a pattern you recognise about yourself, that you 'don't get' but seems unchangeable? Do you feel 'stuck' and unable to live the life you want? Does that desire to live the best life you can seem limited by illness or a potential or actual genetic blue print that isn't changeable ? If you have any of these thoughts or similar, then I can help you to find your answers. I have energy, experience, resources and commitment for this work with you.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. The fact you're on here, looking for support, shows courage. The counselling relationship is one of the most important parts of counselling because we need to feel comfortable enough to be able to open up and get what we need from the sessions. I promise to do what I can to help you feel safe, heard and respected. I believe I'm naturally kind, genuine and empathic, and I would be privileged to support you and help you work through the difficulties you're facing. We can work at your pace, and hopefully together we can find the answers or way forward you may be looking for.

I help people living with the impact of depression, anxiety, chronic stress, fatigue & chronic pain conditions - who feel out of synch with daily life, debilitated in mental, physical & emotional wellbeing, dysregulated in their body, living in ‘survival mode’. Where their health challenges impact on quality of life, behaviour, mood & mindset, leading to overwhelm, exhaustion, difficulty coping with life’s demands. I support people to be more ‘in the driving seat’ of their lives, understanding themselves & their health needs more, aligning with values & what gives them meaning so they may feel able to participate more fully in life.

I can help you heal from the past, feel confident about your future and build better relationships in the present. Therapy with me is a place to be really heard. I will really listen to you as we explore your concerns in a truly safe space. It will be engaging, productive and a place you can gain true insight into yourself. In a session together we might use words, listen to music, work with fabric or sand, draw, or learn how your mind and body work together to heal itself. Ultimately we will always be guided by you, because I really believe you know yourself best.

Many of us feel we're on a hamster wheel, where every day is an endless list of 'jobs'. We have no time to just quietly be, or when we do get a moment, we restlessly scroll through social media. Sometimes we struggle to process past experiences and relationships, making us feel stuck. In my counselling I offer a safe, confidential space for you to reflect and work through your feelings. Time that is just about you, with a warm and understanding counsellor to help you find meaning in the chaos.

People access therapy for many different reasons, but generally we are most likely to reach out for help when our usual coping strategies are no longer effective. At these times it is not always helpful or possible to turn to family or friends, and their well-meaning support may not always help. I will provide a calm and confidential space where you will be able to safely share what is troubling you.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
