Being open and honest is all I could ask for in a client. The rest will come over time to be able to work through goals or challenges currently being faced. I'm interested in the motivation of what initiates the contact from a client to a counsellor and how this motivation can be harnessed to bring about positive change.

Many of us experience times when we are struggling with our emotions or mental health. However sometimes this can go on for too long and it can have a big impact upon our quality of life. We might notice repeating patterns or cycles that feel hard to make sense of or change.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. The fact you're on here, looking for support, shows courage. The counselling relationship is one of the most important parts of counselling because we need to feel comfortable enough to be able to open up and get what we need from the sessions. I promise to do what I can to help you feel safe, heard and respected. I believe I'm naturally kind, genuine and empathic, and I would be privileged to support you and help you work through the difficulties you're facing. We can work at your pace, and hopefully together we can find the answers or way forward you may be looking for.

I am able to work with the following (and many more): anxiety, depression, bereavement, parenting/ family issues, self-esteem, trauma, childhood abuse, problems in relationships.
If you are looking for psychotherapy it can feel daunting, or possibly confusing: I hope I can help. I offer a 20 minute phone conversation where we can discuss whether meeting with me may help. I have over 19 years experience as a psychotherapist in the NHS and other settings. I am a sensitive therapist and work supportively and thoughtfully. In psychotherapy with me I provide a dependable, confidential ‘space’ in which we can think together, exploring your issues. It can be a great relief to talk in this way about emotional, relational and other difficulties. I have experience of many different issues/difficulties.

I work particularly well with teens ( having not yet grown up- I see a different perspective!) bereavement and grief, sexuality, questioning and diversity issues.
Clients contact me when they have anxiety, panic attacks, grief and questions of themselves.Sometimes trauma and low self esteem can cause people to seek help.I also find life transitions are the catalyst for seeking help. Talking to me in a safe, unjudged safe space can provide the answers to unpick a lifetimes hurt and shame. Working through the jumble of memories, people who have caused you harm and spoken critical words takes its toll and won’t go away by just ignoring it. Our own self criticism can eat away at the successes. I can help you make sense of it and move forward with your life’s goals that you deserve finally.

Bereavement Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
