Website: rhodascantleburycounselling.co.uk Counselling gives you your own time and space to consider what is going on, who you are and who you want to be. The possibility of time and space might feel important because you're currently experiencing something where your own resources no longer feel sufficient to cope. Perhaps you see that you're responding to situations with more anxiety, anger or distress than feels entirely manageable, or it may be that you're feeling very little and have a sense of being out of touch with yourself or others.

My 20 years experience as an accredited counsellor adds a depth to my coaching that ensures that clients know that they are in a safe pair of hands. Clients from all walks of life work with me. Senior executives, both men and women. Lawyers and those in Human Resources. Business owners. Individuals seeking to improve and understand their thoughts and actions, who want to live in a more purposeful way. Those who feel out of kilter with their true selves and do not understand their core values. Life can be complex and having as safe space to make goals and find a new way forward can be life changing.

I’m a qualified integrative counsellor & mindfulness instructor. I am passionate about working with women and men who are depressed and anxious, and those that have experienced loss, sexual abuse or domestic violence. My aim is for you to feel heard and accepted. This may be the first time you've spoken to anyone about what you're going through, so I offer a place to process your experiences, helping you to gently come to terms with the feelings you are facing. Our sessions will allow you to understand how your experiences have affected your feelings, behaviour and relationships, providing you with coping strategies for the future.

Sometimes strong emotions such as anger, sadness and anxiety can leave children feeling overwhelmed. This can lead them to become withdrawn, have difficulties at school and in friendships, or show their feelings in behaviours which are unhelpful. Psychotherapy can help your child to put their feelings into words and help them to express themselves in a different way. They will have access to a confidential space in which they can explore what is causing their distress and, by understanding themselves better, they can have better relationships with their family and friends and begin to build their confidence.

As a woman, do you put other people's needs above your own and find it difficult to say no? Maybe it's hard to say how you really feel or to ask for what you need? Do you find being nice all the time and avoiding upsetting anyone could be taking it’s toll, especially when you already feel stressed and overwhelmed by the many roles and relationships in your life? I wonder what life would look like if you felt calmer and more confident in yourself? How would it change your personal relationships and your life in general? What would it feel like to be able to voice what it is you want? It's certainly challenging being a woman today.

Here at Sanae Mentis counselling you will be assured a safe space with which to explore your world without judgement. This is your time to bring whatever is troubling you and to know that you are not alone as I walk alongside you through what can sometimes feel painful. Counselling can at times be challenging as you delve a little deeper into your emotions but this is truly where growth can occur and therefore it is important to understand that the more you get out from this experience will largely depend on how open you can be. Alongside my Private practice, I work with clients for Betterhelp and with Wellbeing in the arts.

Life can be challenging at time and we can struggle to understand why we feel unhappy, worried and disconnected with people close to us. Often being able to talk about these difficult feelings with someone without judgement in full confidence to explore problems, hopes and fears. Whether struggling with anxiety and or depression, reaching out is the first step towards recovery.

I am a BABCP accredited CBT/REBT therapist supporting adults with anxiety and depression. Whether anxiety is a new problem or something someone has grappled with for a long time and whether anxiety is specific such as OCD, GAD, social anxiety, panic, health anxiety and phobias or a sense of unease, the evidence-based and solution focussed approach of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy can help. I also support clients with low mood, depression and emotional problems such as anger, shame, guilt and low self esteem. Sometimes clients are not sure which way to turn or feel stuck; both CBT and REBT can help you to clarify a way forward.

Issues I work with include joylessness & low self esteem; addictive/excessive behaviour; relationship & sexual issues/ affairs & divorce; anger/emotional imbalances; bereavement/loss; sexual/physical abuse, trauma & PTSD. But whatever is troubling you please do get in touch: working through current problems we may look back at childhood & unresolved past issues, making sense of how things have been for you & why behaviours have developed whilst being curious about what could be be different: what purpose is there in this challenging time? how do you want to live & what needs to change?

We all go through difficulties at times and sometimes can feel out of our depth and in need of a helping hand. I believe our past experiences can shape how we feel and respond in any given situation and can keep us trapped in negative cycles and unsure of a way out. I want to help you overcome these difficulties and find a way forward to start reaching your goals. Please do not feel you have to go through this alone or that things can’t change. Let’s work together to see how we can understand things and make things better for the future. I have worked in a variety of settings including NHS, private and hospitals for over 10 years.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
