Our mental health is so important. All too quickly we can feel swept away by life’s demands, by the experiences or decisions that can feel thrust upon us and by the needs and wants of others. Life can be exhausting and hard to navigate, often finding the way forward feels difficult to identify. This is where counselling comes in. As a fully qualified & experienced relational therapist, my role will be one of support, curiosity and gentle guidance.

Therapy can provide a place of honesty for all the battles in our heads, from medical diagnoses, past trauma, sexual desire, issues of gender, to everyday compulsive/negative thinking. Understanding our experience in a rapidly changing environment, whilst surrounded by limitless information that offers such contradictory explanations can leave us feeling overwhelmed. Finding, and maintaining, personal meaning amongst so much uncertainty is a struggle. You needn't face it alone. Therapy reduces anxiety and deepens our understanding. Together we strive to create personal harmony between your internal needs and those external demands

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile today. Because I feel, we are so different in how we respond in our life’s situations, we can feel more hopelessness, struggling, feeling more overwhelmed with everyday life’s problems, and feeling more stuck in life. By working, listening and supporting you, when your experiencing higher levels of stress, and anxiety, you can find better ways to help you cope, and not be so overwhelmed with your negative thoughts, whilst learning to manage, cope, and communicate better for yourself, improving your relationships with people around you, who are part of and in your life.

You may be suffering with feelings of stress, anxiety, or depression; or emotions which gush out disproportionately to what seems to have triggered them; struggling in relationships which cause you distress; or recent events may have brought to the surface painful feelings which seem hard to manage or which feel confusing. Whatever is troubling you, I offer a safe space to explore and work through it together. For me psychotherapy is not only for those with a diagnosable psychological issue, or for someone who can be labelled as having something 'wrong' with them, it can benefit anyone who wants to get more out of life.

The experience of coming for therapy is an opportunity for you to discover for the first (or subsequent) time in life that you can let go of all the judgements, the fear and hesitation, and begin to talk about what is bothering you. We become wounded within a sense of connectedness - in families, relationships, friendships and society - and paradoxically it is within a sense of connectedness that we can begin to heal. Healing the emotional brain takes time, but it is a creative and deeply fulfilling process that brings wonderful gifts with itself. I help my clients to begin to feel more balanced and calm within their mind and body.

Hi, my name is Aneta. I am an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor, which means that I draw from various approaches, including Gestalt, Person Centred and Psychodynamic, putting the therapeutic relationship at the centre of my work. I have experience working therapeutically with people from all walks of life, but my two main areas of expertise are supporting people to process their trauma (both recent and historic) and working with clients from ethnically diverse communities. I facilitate culturally sensitive therapy with an understanding of issues related to diversity and identity.

Relational Counsellors

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioural or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioural therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
