I can work with you on issues that are causing your stress , anxiety bereavement and loss or you might have family relationship difficulties people close to you . Are things feeling not quite right, but you're not sure why? Want to make some changes, but don't know what to do, or where to start? Or maybe there's something about your relationship that is causing you to worry? If you'd like to understand more about yourself, your reactions and your decisions, so that you can steer yourself or your relationship towards a different future, then counselling might be helpful for you.

I offer a psychoanalytic approach to work - this focuses on meaning and unconscious motivation and dynamics in relationships that can result in a range of mental health difficulties, stuckness in life, anger, fear and unhappiness that we struggle with at various stages of our life.
I am a registered Psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience in the field of mental health & Well-Being. I work with adults, children & adolescents. Work with children involves the use of play equipment. Work with adolescents and adults follows a more traditional talking therapy format. I offer short term and open-ended therapy. I also offer parent consultations for parents struggling to understand their children and adolescents. I do not offer adult couples therapy.

I entered the world of psychotherapy so I could manage and eventually overcome the painful emotions and thoughts that I had experienced. If this is the case for you, then psychotherapy can help you explore uncomfortable feelings that have held you back from living life to the full. Life often throws the unexpected at us, be it through relationships, either personal or professional, we sometimes find it difficult to cope alone and need the support to help us through this difficult time.

My counselling approach combines aspects of Person Centred Therapy, Transactional Analysis and Psychodynamic Therapy. As a counsellor my job is to help you to both make sense of what is happening to you and to find a way to live with the challenges you are facing. Practice currently full. Do contact me for wait times and potential availability. Life problems are most often programmed into and manifested in our relationships with ourselves, with others and the world around us. Our early social networks, our personalities, and our environments interact to influence how we view & experience life in the present day and how we habitually respond to it. How we grew up and our world as adults sometimes unknowingly constrain how we can think, feel, and cope with life now. My treatment approach aims to give you freedom to live with more vitality, choice, and self-understanding moving forward.

Often clients come to me when they are seeking deep or broad change in themselves. They have often tried more brief forms of therapy. Commonly, this has helped but not enough, and there is a wish or a need to get to something deeper over a longer period of time. I work with a range of presenting issues, most commonly depression, anxiety and 'people pleasing', stuckness and relationship problems. What my clients tend to have in common is a wish to understand themselves at some depth, including how the past is unconsciously impacting on their present lives. This forms the starting point for change in the self.

Do you sometimes feel different? Or that what you go through is unique only to you? perhaps you believe things that happen to you are all your fault? Or you struggle in relationships? I understand the need to feel part of the world, not 'messed up' - we are social creatures who often care what people think. And we have a natural desire to be the best person we can be - something to be cultivated. The conflict to fit in, whilst being true to yourself - creates tension, anxiety, depression, poor coping strategies. Plus the modern pressures of life rarely let us 'just be'. The process of therapy can resolve these deep conflicts.

Hi, my name is Hope. I know, a pretty good name for a therapist! I am an Integrative Psychotherapist. My aim and approach in therapy is to help you find your own path to the life you wish to live. We are all uniquely different and have different reactions to life and life events. I can help you work through some things you might find difficult. For example: Anxiety; Depression; Trauma; Relationship Issues. In order to heal and progress, we must first understand our emotions, what they are and where they come from. From here can make decisions to do something different, to break the patterns that no longer serve us in our life.

My therapeutic approach is mainly relational with a psychoanalytic theoretical base.
I am a qualified Psychologist and psychotherapist from Brazil, and I am very passionate about therapeutic interventions that vary from deep psychological interventions based on the client's history and memories, to an emphasis on the relationship between therapist and client, including their cultural context and systems. I am also very interested in using symbolic representations and meanings in the therapeutic setting to assist clients on their reflections and self-awareness. I have worked in a variety of settings including psychiatric hospitals, voluntary LGBTQ organisations, as well as the private and educational sectors.

I work in a psychoanalytic tradition that links our conscious actions to unconscious processes.
Are you experiencing anxiety or depression and want to explore their possible cause? Have you experienced trauma and are struggling to deal with its consequences? Do you find relationships difficult? These are some of the questions that I explore in my work with clients, drawing upon my ongoing training at the Society for Social and Critical Psychoanalysis (UKCP Registered), my four years of training in psychotherapy, my three decades of experience in Communications and Crisis Management, and my professional engagement with psychological issues across race, gender and orientation in the USA, China and France.

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviours. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behaviour is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
