Hello, I’m Sarah. Life is full of ups and downs, with many obstacles to encounter along the way. At times, these can become too much and people seek support from others. As a counsellor I am able to offer you a safe, comfortable space where you can take time to explore your thoughts, and work through whatever you choose to bring to counselling. Seeking help can be a daunting prospect so feel free to call for an informal chat to see if this the therapy for you.

Life has a way of taking us down some pretty rough roads at times, and it can make us feel alone, anxious, angry, confused, all sorts of emotions, that when left can build and bring us down even further. Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed and it can interfere with our enjoyment of life and keep us stuck. Breath, you are not alone. Sometimes you just need someone to hear you. I’m here to listen and assist you with the issues you are experiencing. I have a passion for helping people learn to cope with and overcome the issues that are hindering their lives. It can be daunting to reach out, but that is where I can help.

Through professional training and personal experience, I specialise in providing counselling for bereavement and loss, self harm and any pregnancy related issues, whilst also being able to provide support in other areas.
Bereavement doesn’t only cover the loss of a loved one, this is an expansive area where we experience loss, whether this is the loss of a home, a relationship a job or indeed the passing of someone we love. We can also experience grief with the loss of a way of life, friendship and loss of an expected future or expectation of something happening in a certain way. Loss can create an array of emotions and thoughts which I can help you to unpick and understand enabling you to feel a sense of calm again.

I specialise in working with children & their families, particularly young children. Parents contact me because they are concerned about their child's behaviour or development, sometimes they can see that their child is worried, cross or seems sad. Often parents have questions about how best to respond to their child in different situations, or want to learn more about different parenting approaches. Parents also worry about relationships within the family; whether they feel as close to their child as they thought they would, or whether difficult times have put a strain on relationships. These are all good reasons to get in touch.

My counselling approach combines aspects of Person Centred Therapy, Transactional Analysis and Psychodynamic Therapy. As a counsellor my job is to help you to both make sense of what is happening to you and to find a way to live with the challenges you are facing. I strongly believe that the best way to do this is to create a safe relationship where you don’t feel judged and can explore all of your feelings. Relationships are at the core of our emotional well-being, but they are often complex. While they bring moments of profound joy, they also bring moments of confusion and distress which can be hard to navigate alone.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Counsellors

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviours. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
