Life, and our lived experience of it, is complex. Often times we choose not to look into this complexity for fear of being overwhelmed by unwanted truths and emotions. This approach may work for some of us for a while, however for most - life will confront us with pain that is difficult to ignore. The avoidance of this pain or reality is what leads to mental health symptoms and prolonged distress. However, life does not need to be so difficult. If you would like to make sense of your life and unique lived experienced in order to lead a more fulfilled existence, please get in touch.

Often clients contact me when other therapy has not helped them in the way they had hoped. This is often due to the complexity of difficulties being layered perhaps in a history of trauma. Distress in the body and mind can be triggered by what appears to be something superficial. This can open up the past or come at a time when our emotional resilience is low so this event has a greater impact than it may have done. We can find ourselves not being able to function in our normal way. Many clients often identify as 'good copers' and those who 'just get on with it'. Perhaps we can't now - this is frightening and can derail us.

Hello and welcome. Thank you for taking the first step in reaching out to find a play therapist for your child. I have dedicated my career to working with children and feel very privileged to support young people in this way. Play Therapy is a magical way of offering therapy when words do not come easily. Play Therapy, or Creative Therapy for older children, provides an outlet to explore their thoughts and feelings in a safe environment with few limitations and without judgement. Sometimes children are unable to express in words how they are feeling or may not be willing to discuss a traumatic experience. Play makes this easier.

I understand that seeking therapy can be an uncertain and challenging process and the continuing changes we face in life can lead us to feel overwhelmed. May aim as a counsellor is to support you through the present pandemic and beyond helping you with any Anxiety, Stress and other issues this could bring. Deciding to seek therapy enables you to have a safe space to explore and work on yourself and the issues you bring to the session. I believe this is the first step towards a new you and with the right interventions helping you to become a stronger version of yourself. I offer both face to face and on line sessions.

I am a qualified psychotherapist, life coach, trainer and supervisor, with over 20 years experience in private practice. I work with adults who may be encountering life's stressors to a greater-than-usual degree or may be struggling to find their way forward in a diverse range of circumstances. These may be from personal or professional sources but usually involve our own, perhaps not very helpful, habitual ways of dealing with such difficulties - we all can revert to old habits in times of trouble. I am available to do both short- and long-term work according to need.

Maybe you are bereaved and feeling hopeless, but can't discuss this with family? Maybe you are feeling anxious and isolated, working from home and you are fearful of discussing job security with your boss? Maybe you don’t even know why you are feeling so sad or overwhelmed but you do know it is beginning to impact your daily life. Counselling is a talk therapy and it is extremely useful for exploring what is going on beneath the surface we present to the world, that version of ourselves that tries so hard to keep all of the plates spinning at all costs. I want to help you with whatever you are feeling, you are not alone with this.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
