Do you feel Anxious or Depressed? Are you Angry, Exhausted, Stuck or Overwhelmed? Seeking counselling is a big step, and finding the right counsellor for you is the key to success. I offer a FREE 30min consultation call, so you can see if my style will work for you, or visit my website to see if you feel my approach will work for you. Life is so busy with many competing pressures. We face seemingly impossible situations through loss or trauma. It's easy to become lost or overwhelmed and start to struggle. Often we cant talk to friends and family, and we can start to feel alone, anxious or stuck.

Hi there, I am a psychotherapist in Cheadle Hulme. l love working with people and supporting them to make positive changes in their lives. We all share the desire and drive to be the best person we possibly can and to have healthy, loving relationships. Sometimes life gets in the way and we get stuck in a moment, a thought or a pattern of behaviour. Life can be difficult and the way forward is not always clear. Everyone can benefit from therapy for personal growth, to live in the here-and-now and to better connect with the things that matter to you. It is important to find the right therapist so I offer a free 50 minute session.

As an integrative practitioner I call upon a range of concepts and therapeutic tools to help clients deal with dysfunctional ways of feeling, behaving and living. My principle belief is that despite the problems we encounter, we all have the capacity for change. sometimes this is hard to visualise, difficult to accept. problems can appear overwhelming and insurmountable. By working in collaboration with clients, as partner's with a common purpose, unhealthy rules for living and core beliefs can be challenged, this can lead clients to happier more fulfilling ways of being that reach into our untapped potential.

Hello, I'm Katie. I offer psychotherapy and counselling to adults at my private garden office in Bramhall, Stockport and online. I provide a nurturing, open and honest space, where you can talk about your difficulties, without judgment. Having experienced therapy myself, I know it can take time to feel comfortable talking to a stranger, but there is no rush. We will work together at your pace and comfort level. For me, therapy is about getting in touch with who we are. By developing our self-awareness and gaining insight into our thoughts, feelings and behaviours, we can develop the freedom to change what isn't working for us.

Isn’t it strange how we talk the least about the things we think about the most?! Talking about your feelings, your emotions, your behaviours and your thoughts can feel overwhelming and conflicted, not knowing where to begin, this can seem scary and uncomfortable. My role is to support you to acknowledge, explore, accept, and understand them in order to achieve growth & positive change. My philosophy is that you hold your own answers internally but you are unable to access them, working collaboratively we will unlock them using your strengths and gaining empowerment.

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor/psychotherapist based in New Mills, High Peak. I offer weekday appointments. If you are finding some aspects of life to be difficult, I can work with you to make life more enjoyable. Sometimes it is not the obvious content of a therapy session which brings about change or growth, but the relational process of having a safe supportive counselling relationship which can help you to gain freedom from your fears and anxieties. The relationship I build with my clients empowers positive change. I also provide training to organisations and clinical supervision to other counsellors and trainees.

I'm Stu, the counsellor and founder SJR Therapy. I am passionate about mental health and firmly believe that counselling can change a persons life. I have a wealth of experience in lots of different areas - I worked in education for a number of years, as a counsellor and mentor to teaching staff and students and worked in the financial service industry before changing careers to counselling and psychotherapy. Having struggled with poor mental health myself and receiving therapy as a result, I can totally understand the nerves and anxiety that you may have before you embark on your therapeutic journey but you have nothing to fear.

In childhood we make decisions about who we think we are based on limited information, together we will identify which of these is no longer helpful. Repeating patterns in life that are unhelpful is a symptom of this so we will work to discover the root of these decisions and make some changes. I very much see you as the expert on you and me as the facilitator for change in your life. I also incorporate mindfulness and awareness of the present moment into your therapy as the past can lead us to depression and the future to anxiety. Peace is in the present moment.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
