My extensive life experience allows me to connect deeply with clients who have been through similar trials. It's rare and liberating for them to find someone who genuinely 'gets it.' Life is difficult and often complex, sometimes engaging in a professional therapeutic relationship can help us make sense of things that are causing us distress. I am a person-centred therapist and I care deeply about the work I do. My therapeutic modality has trained me to work holistically with people as a whole rather than work in a problem specific way. I endeavour to co-create relationships which have a healing effect on my clients. Although I have extensive experience with depression, anxiety and addiction, I work with people, not just their problems.

Thank you very much for visiting my page. I am a Person Centred counsellor based in Seaford and I rent a room in the town centre. I aim to offer a safe place which is free of judgement and a positive atmosphere where we can explore whatever you may wish to bring to each session. In return I’ll also offer honesty and transparency to help build our relationship. I endeavour to work with you as an individual and not just on an individual problem. A personal favourite analogy of mine is “I will attempt to put your shoes on and walk with you but I won’t do up the laces”.

Hello and welcome. I understand that making the decision to come into therapy can be daunting; it can seem almost like a formal acknowledgment that things in your life are not exactly as you would like them. Despite the emotional challenges involved in reaching out for support, the acknowledgment of your problems can be the first step in solving them.

You've found your way here, welcome. We can struggle tremendously in trying to contend with life’s challenges alone. As daunting as it can sometimes feel, asking for support can feel freeing in itself. I’m yet to know exactly what has brought you here but I trust you are here for a reason. Maybe you are feeling disconnected from yourself, experiencing relationship difficulties, or going through huge changes. Our reasons for seeking counselling support may differ but we all want to feel heard, valued and appreciated in who we are and what we have to share and that is what I trust you will feel in the space I am offering you.

My Name is Mark. I specialise in helping people overcome and gain recovery from Sex Addiction, and have been doing so since 2009. During this time I have tailored my style of therapy to enable my clients to not only gain as much insight to their own addiction, but also the tools to live a more fulfilling life free of addiction. I still feel sex addiction is a taboo area in today’s society where very few people including general counsellors do not fully understand the severity and impact caused.

At times life can be difficult. Sometimes it may feel like life isn’t moving forward and you keep repeating the same old patterns and nothing changes. You may be dwelling on the past or worried about the present or the future. You may just be in a place of general unhappiness where you just don’t know what to do. In developing a better understanding of ourselves, increasing our awareness, and learning about how we operate as people we are able to make fresh choices, see new perspectives, change things, move forward and find our full potential. I believe in peoples capacity to thrive when they are given the right conditions to do so.

Do you ever think that your life could be so much happier or more satisfying than it is? Counselling could be the first step towards making it so. Many of us grow up with negative influences around us: indifference, criticism, insecurity, rejection, sometimes even hostility and aggression. As we grow up we find ourselves absorbing these energies, and in adult life they show up as low self-esteem, as anxiety, as outbursts of rage or as depression. They interfere with our work, with our relationships and with our ability to enjoy and make the most of our lives.

There are many reasons you may be seeking counselling but I imagine you are wanting something to change. My aim is to facilitate a relationship that is tailored to you and created with you. This provides the conditions for you to freely and safely explore the challenges you may face as well as the trauma or difficulties you have experienced. Counselling is not only about what we think of ourselves and our life but more importantly, our felt sense of ourselves and our visceral experience of life. Giving space and awareness to our experience is what informs us of what is needed for healing, growth and change.

Male Counsellors
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
