Relationships can be difficult, miscommunication & misattunement of emotions can create patterns of behaviour that can lead to a lack of connectiveness & blocks to intimancy. This can trigger a fight or flight response & the cycle continues. In therapy you can learn to communicate your care seeking & care giving needs in a clear way & change the relationship to a more secure & attuned base. You'll learn the skills to listen to each other & navigate the ruptures & repairs that are part of all relationships. I will work to provide a safe & non biased space for you to resolve them together & decide the best way forward.

I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist. I believe that the most important part of therapy is that we build a strong and therapeutic relationship together so that you can feel safe to explore your feelings and concerns. We all have times in our life when we need support and it is not always possible to sort things out with the help of family and friends. I would be there to listen and not judge, in a confidential and caring environment. Counselling can feel daunting but can help to empower you to explore and reflect on ways of making changes and moving forward with your life.

You may experience unexpected disruption, chronic conditions, major life upheaval, triggering of past experiences, bereavement, and any of these could create anxiety, trauma or depression. Understanding could fall away, your support system could become unhelpful, anti-depressants may not be effective and your coping mechanisms may not work. You may feel overpowered by your circumstances and perhaps seek support and reinforcement as you experience distress. You may want your complex issues to be contained and get some tools and techniques to cope. Perhaps you may just like to confide in someone and share your experience.

Sometimes life can seem overwhelming and we can be dealing with something painful. We all have times when we need emotional support. You do not have to struggle alone. Often it is only when we talk to someone unconnected with our lives that we begin to hear what we are really saying and feeling. I offer a safe, unjudgemental and confidential space for you to work through what is troubling you and will support you as you find new ways forward.

Sometimes in life we can be surrounded by people yet feel so alone. When speaking with friends and family you may feel they are not really listening, not realizing they maybe advising, or even competing with your problems. Stress, depression and low self esteem can often make you feel invisible but these feelings are not permanent. Living with shame, anger, fear or sadness can leave you in a dark fog, struggling to find your way through. With help and support your journey may become clearer. I would like to offer you space to talk without feeling judged, pressured or nagged, to experience feeling supported, valued and important.

I specialise in substance misuse, mental illness and Domestic Violence.
Life is an adventure. Only through exploring a new path, the strength you will feel tomorrow will move you forward for that change. Reaching out can be overwhelming, daunting draining & can lead to a downward spiral, of being in a dark place, if you do not have the support, which pushes you to your comfort zone. This can sometimes be more harmful than helpful to your journey of change, if you cannot trust, feel uncomfortable to open up, or have no one that really listens to your cries, as you feel you are seen, but not heard, undervalued or not acknowledged. Let alone checked in, if you are okay. Well guess what? YOU are not alone.

During difficult times, we all seem to be struggling with our mental health - I specialise in working with male issues such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, addiction and psychosexual, but exclusively.
Asking for help is not an easy step to take. The prospect of sharing your thoughts and feelings with someone else is quite a leap of faith and if you have not experienced counselling before you may be wondering what to expect. I would like to offer you a comfortable space where we can talk and get to know each other; and when you are ready, we can start to explore and make sense of your thoughts and personal difficulties, working entirely at your own pace. By exploring our past experiences and relationships we can often gain a new and fresh perspective on our issues which can lead to a deeper understanding of ourselves.

What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.
How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.
How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.
How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
