Therapy can be a catalyst for change helping us to regain a sense of control in our lives and begin to live life more towards our true potential. I have experience of working with a wide range of issues that impact on clients' wellbeing, offering support, empathy and a safe space to share their concerns. I work with individuals, couples, families, children, young people on short and long-term contracts in Canterbury and Waltham. I use different approaches and techniques that are tailored to clients' needs, believing that we are all individual and that ‘one size does not fit all’. I have also lived and worked extensively overseas.

Have you ever felt that nobody really gets you? Have you ever been thinking I just do not fit in? If only someone would understand you! I know how lonely that can feel. When we find ourselves making the same mistakes over and over again despite following advice from our family or friends, its time to reach out to someone who can give you a better understanding why do we make the choices we make and how can we break the cycle of bad decisions.

I strive to provide a warm and non-judgemental space for my clients to talk, believing the relationship and connection between counsellor and client is fundamental to client self-exploration and personal growth. I work collaboratively with each client so I can tailor my approach, this is important, as we are all unique. Offering a safe and confidential space for the expression and understanding of feelings. I can offer the flexibility of short or longer term therapy and the frequency of sessions is entirely up to each client, options include weekly, fortnightly, a floating arrangement for those working on a changeable rota.

If you are struggling with intense feelings of fear, anxiety and sadness and if you find yourself full of panic, despair and frustration you may be trying to understand why you are trapped in these feelings much of the time. If you ruminate on situations, worry about past events, struggle to connect to those in your life and find your days consumed by worry, anger and stress, then a period of therapy may help you to gain insight into the origins of your emotional distress.

Coming to counselling is an adventure! It can be immense fun and incredibly inspirational. It can also be hard and will certainly make you take a good look at yourself! If you want to make changes in your life then counselling is one of the most effective ways to do it... and I will help you along the way, walking alongside you, giving you support. It is a great privilege for me - and I deeply value the vulnerable person (within all of us) that counselling helps to find the courage to reveal. I work with kindness, warmth and respect, and our relationship will become strong - yet I will challenge you - but in a caring and gentle way.

Working as a Jungian Psychotherapist, Integrative Counsellor, healer and Reiki Master means I work holistically. Every aspect of you is included in therapy - mental, physical, emotional, and at the soul level. When we get in touch with unconscious motives and drivers, and how they manifest as behaviours, we are able to make different choices and to be more of our true selves. I have run my private practice for 11 years & am a member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy.

I became a therapist because I am passionate about people and improving as well as enhancing mental wellbeing. I understand that life can be a challenge and at times it may be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel but I want to assure you that you do not have to go through life’s struggles by yourself. I am here for you and I am here with you. With your permission, I would like to come besides you and help you explore and discover events, thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour and together support you to make changes.

I understand how difficult even contemplating seeking a counsellor or psychotherapist can be, to seek someone you trust, who will not judge you, and at the same time help you feel heard and understood. It is my job to help you feel safe and secure in therapy and I do this by being open about how I work, to hold the space for you so that you can bring your difficulties to counselling, and listening to what you want to achieve. I am here to listen with empathy, It is important that you receive the therapy that is right for you; everyone is an individual with their own individual needs.

Given the latest government advice all sessions will be offered online. I have ten years of experience of working in this way and I am happy to give you guidance to set this up. You will need an internet connection (preferably high speed), a headset and microphone. I can also offer telephone sessions but face to face via an online platform is preferable. Psychotherapy is about being listened to and seen in a particular way. There is nowhere else in life that offers a time and space to focus on your 'self' - your body and your mind. My Kent practice is in the village of Bridge near Canterbury and is easy to reach.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
