My aim is to work along side you, offering a safe and warm therapeutic space where you can reflect upon your feelings and be supported to explore your worries.
‘We don’t have to do all of it alone, we were never meant to’ Brene Brown This quote resonates with me and acknowledges that we all have times in our life when we all need support and that we do not need to go through difficult and distressing times alone.

As often issues arise when our coping mechanisms stop working, I will help you explore what's going on, without judging you or trying to tell you what to do, with respect.
Not being understood is one of the most painful feelings. Struggling to relate to others, or live in this complicated world is so difficult for so many of us. Making sense of ourselves and finding solutions to longstanding issues – from depression, anxiety, social phobias, low self-esteem, anger management, bereavement, life-stage issues, loss, marital difficulties, relationship struggles, self-harming and suicide and unresolved childhood development challenges? You need not struggle alone; we can explore and discover what choices you have to make changes to your life's personal challenges.

Good counselling depends on a good relationship.
Are you struggling with your emotions? Maybe the stresses of everyday life have become too much or you are struggling with the overwhelming impacts of trauma. You might be confused, feeling lost or uncertain about how you can move forwards. Having somewhere to talk about your problems, with someone who listens without agenda or judgement can help. I can work with you to build a secure and safe relationship where you can tell your story and explore your thoughts and feelings. Through empathic understanding I will help you on a path of self-discovery to live a fuller and happier life.

These are your sessions and I will work with what you choose to bring into the sessions.
Hello there, I qualified to practice back in 2002, from here I worked full time as a Counsellor for an Alcohol service. I worked for ten years with clients where the presenting issue was alcohol misuse, however there were many other issues our clients struggled with, such as Depression, Anxiety, Low Self Esteem etc. I have extensive experience of successfully working with clients to make significant changes and to reach their goals. Since leaving this service, I have worked in a variety of therapeutic settings, gaining more and varied experience. I can help with most issues and usually without a need for long term therapy.

At times we can all face difficulties and my experiences including working with Depression, Self-Harm, Bereavement and Addiction.
Has life thrown something in your path that you are struggling to make sense of? Are you aware that your stress or anxiety levels are heightened and you are confused by these feelings? Then perhaps you need someone to talk to, to help you make sense of the confusion you are feeling and the unexplained emotions that can feel overwhelming and leave you feeling alone. As a qualified person-centred counsellor I can offer an empathic, open, safe environment, enabling you to explore those feelings, allowing you to better understand them and helping you to reconnect with you inner values and sense of self-worth.

Do you feel that there is something standing in the way of achieving the happiness you deserve? Feeling anxious and depressed without obvious cause? I can help you heal the cause of the disturbance, invariably rooted in your past.
Maybe you had a difficult childhood, suffered neglect, abuse, bullying. Perhaps life became challenging later on. Trauma is a subjective experience, if something upset you at any point then you may be still living with the impact of the trauma. There may be multiple traumatic events in your life which you have been unable to process. Subsequent traumatic events will add to your distress. Untreated trauma inevitably manifests itself as anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions. If you would like to make sense of your life and repair the damage caused by your past then EMDR provides the most humane & effective treatment.

In the past decade I have worked in the social care and mental health sector, particularly with autism and learning disabilities, as well as doing counselling charitable work with elderly people.
If you are struggling with unresolved emotions, anxiety, depression, or patterns in your life that seems beyond your control, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is a powerful tool for investigating the impact of our past and present experiences on our feelings, behaviours, and intentions in life. Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is a relational journey of self-exploration. As a compassionate and experienced psychotherapist, I offer a safe and non-judgmental space where to understand deep-rooted issues and foster lasting change.

It may be that you have a specific problem that you want to tackle or you may just feel that your life could be better - either way, we can work together to make positive changes in your life.
Are you feeling "how do I deal with this" or "how can I change things" and you just don't know where to start.........then I can help. Counselling can make a huge difference to how you live your life. People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons and you're certainly not alone if you are finding making the first move quite daunting. I provide a quiet, safe space where you can freely discuss your fears, worries, hopes and dreams without judgement. This will allow you to gain a greater understanding of where you are now, where you want to be and how to get there.

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognise and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioural activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
