Many people who seek counselling or psychotherapy have found themselves experiencing relationship problems or emotional difficulties, however, therapy can also benefit those who are curious about themselves and wish to engage in therapy for personal growth.

Tired of finding yourself frustrated, lonely, unfulfilled and lost in your intimate life and relationships? Yes, spending life stuck and unhappy, feeling like a lab rat – trying to figure out a maze without a map can be soul destroying. I've been talking, teaching and helping people with their relationships and sexuality since 2007, and no story can faze me. You can feel safe - I'll get you. I will understand and not judge one bit. This is your journey. Are you struggling with intimacy and sexuality? Are you curious about kinky sex or swinging? Or maybe you want to open your relationship? Or to begin with - actually find a partner?

Whatever your age or background, come and talk about yourself and let us gently explore together your inner world. Living a life full of anxiety or depression or behaving in ways that trouble you is painful and restricting. It doesn't have to be that way.

Welcome, I offer a mindfulness-based Wholearth approach. This way is relational and grounded in embodied awareness, weaving together depth psychology, ecology and spirituality. We all experience suffering and feel challenged by life. This may express itself as; anxiety, trauma, depression, grief, overwhelm, relationship difficulties or a loss of orientation to what matters. In sessions we open to and gently investigate the suffering you are experiencing by turning towards your direct, bodily experience, without any agenda. In time life-limiting patterns of thinking and relating loosen, revealing more of your true, authentic being.

You may have been considering therapy for a while but are hesitating or perhaps you've had previous experience and need something more. You feel something is not right but it is hard to think about or put into words? Living with high levels of anxiety, shame or fear for a prolonged period, can negatively affect the way we perceive ourselves and others. So with a compassionate approach, I work with most psychological difficulties, and have a special interest in anxiety and low mood, problematic family relationships, parenting and bereavement. I also work extensively with adolescents and welcome working with those of 16+years.

A client is a family who are struggling with a teenager and having increasing difficulty in communication and high levels of conflict. The impact would be on all members of the family and how they handle this degree of stress. It might be that there is one family member who is most distressed or concerned by the situation and are the most motivated to seek help to resolve the difficulties.

Psychotherapy offers a unique experience. We will begin with a consultation phase which will give you an opportunity to find out about this type of therapy and working with me, by having an experience of what it will be like. This will help us with considering if this is the right way forward for you. Ideally we will meet a couple of times, and begin to understand the nature of some of your difficulties. We can discuss both the type of therapeutic approach and a plan for moving forward. If it looks like I might not be the right person to help you, then we can consider a referral to a different clinician or way of working.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
