I understand that the decision to start therapy is rarely made lightly, and taking that first step can feel overwhelming. You may be feeling apprehensive, anxious, and sceptical about sharing your innermost thoughts and emotions with a stranger. It takes immense courage to be vulnerable and talk about the difficulties you are experiencing, and I want you to know that I fully appreciate and respect your decision to seek help. You might be facing a specific problem that you want to address, such as relationship issues, anxiety. Alternatively, you may have a sense that something in your life is not quite right, but cannot identify it.

I'm Andy and as a qualified person-centred counsellor, I strongly believe we all have the ability to navigate life's challenges by drawing on our own experience and capabilities. My role is to enable clients to explore whatever they choose in order to gain a deeper understanding of how it's impacting them, enabling them to create positive change. I do this through actively listening and offering useful reflections of themes I may notice, including any changes over time. I ask clients questions that encourage them to think about their experiences in new ways and never judge or lead anyone into talking about something uncomfortable.

I have been working with people experiencing unhappiness in all sorts of ways for many years and never yet come across anyone who's distress or anxiety or sadness didn't make sense once we had talked about it for a while. Every individual is different and special in my book but has in common the need to be heard, recognised, valued and understood. As a person-centred counsellor those four things are at the heart of my practice. Whatever your concern or difficulty, sharing what is on your mind and in your heart in a safe space is the start of healing and self acceptance. I work online and by phone as well as face to face.

There is hope for Angry Men! “The little things irritate me into arguing! I want to stop…” MEN and ANGER: A misconception – “I am just a fiery person, I can’t change that”. Not true! Are you getting irritable and angry at even the littlest of things? Do you drink to try and shift away from those feelings? Is it impacting your relationships? Are you arguing more than you really want? The longer this goes on the more likely it is your relationship will irreversibly break down. You don’t want to end up with heartbreak, loneliness or a broken home, only seeing your family at the weekend?

Hi there, my name's Odin. The idea of counselling can be pretty unsettling. But you've probably done the hardest part already - you're here and you've accepted the possibility you might need some help with whatever's going on for you. That's already a really big and brave step. If you decide you might like to work with me, then we can safely and confidentially, with respect, compassion, empathy and gentle honesty, have a look at whatever's concerning you. Whatever it is, however hard it feels, I'm here if you want to look at it together.

I work with individuals who are struggling with all kinds of issues, such as depression, anxiety and stress, questions of identity, personality problems, relationship issues, bereavement, addictions, abuse, anger management and many other difficulties. Sometimes problems can be difficult to articulate, like feeling lost, confused, or like something just isn’t right. Often we can face problems that feel so ingrained that we might feel there can’t be a solution. We might feel ‘it’s just who I am’. I am also an experienced couples therapist. Most fights between couples are rooted in the pain of loosing connection with each other.

Anger Management Counsellors
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
