A positive relationship with your therapist is absolutely paramount to effective change taking place, and an overwhelming amount of evidence shows that the therapeutic relationship is more important than the techniques or approach used by the clinician.
Most importantly, I work with people, not diagnoses or labels. I specialise in working with those with a history of trauma, whether that’s one off events such as a car crash, sexual assault or attack, or layers of trauma in the form of childhood neglect/abuse, a military/medical career or an abusive relationship. I try to help my patients overcome their ongoing reactions to this trauma, such as nightmares, flashbacks, intrusive memories, high levels of anxiety and poor sleep. I also work with people experiencing moral injury and survivors guilt. Additionally, those experiencing depression, anxiety, OCD and relationship issues.

I believe clients move forward when offered the right environment, conditions and the best therapeutic relationship.
I have been a Counsellor / Psychotherapist / Hypnotherapist for over 25years I specialised in the field addiction for many years. Working within addiction offered a wide and varied opportunity to work and become familiar with many client issues. Clients relying upon substances, use as a coping mechanism, however substance use causes further mental health issues which further complicates their ability to cope. I now work solely within private practice based at home where clients can relax in a confidential informal setting. This allows them time explore their own needs in a time frame which meets their own specific needs.

Do you have any questions about therapy with me? To get the best from therapy it's vital that you feel comfortable with your therapist and the relationship fits.
I am a Clinical Psychologist and I offer outdoor therapy in a natural setting, as well as traditional sessions in a clinic. And the natural environment can offer us tools to enhance the therapeutic work. You can choose whether you prefer the comfort of the indoors or the freedom of the outdoors!

I have worked with individuals who have struggled with depression, anxiety and issues are their identity or their self-esteem - and couples, children and young people who have struggled with addiction, life changes, bereavement, and trauma.
As an integrative psychotherapist, my ideal clients are those who prefer a warm, individualised approach. I work with a person-centred approach, and I believe that when we are provided with an environment that is non-judgemental and allows you space and safety to explore your thoughts and feelings, anyone can grow. I believe that we can all discover that we have the strength within us to find the answers we seek, courage to change the aspects of our life that we need to and feel at peace with the person that we are.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
