I am a fully qualified and registered psychotherapist and supervisor working with adults, adolescents and couples on the Isle of Wight and on-line across the UK. Sometimes life can be challenging, we can feel lost or stuck or that we have no control over what is happening. We may struggle with relationships or feeling good about ourselves. Expressing thoughts and feelings confidentially without being judged can help us to feel heard and understood. It can also bring clarity, insight and a better understanding of ourselves and how we relate to others.

Life changes! Understanding the next step or how to proceed, initially can be one of the most difficult. Not knowing where to turn, what to do or even if tomorrow is going to happen! And if it does, how am I going to cope? This may be mental health, relationship challenges or breakdown, anxiety, depression, a life changing event, health or loss. At Being Yew, I offer a confidential space where you can speak openly, knowing that you are heard and understood for what you are experiencing. Together, you can choose how you respond and enable yourself to be how you want to be and take ownership.

Hello I'm Clara and thank you for visiting my page. Talking to someone about issues you may be facing can often be difficult, so well done for making that first step. Searching for a counsellor can also prove difficult and it is important to find the right one for you. I believe the most important aspect of therapy is the relationship between you and your counsellor. There are many approaches to counselling and as an Integrative Counsellor I work with several theoretical approaches such as Person Centred, Gestalt, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Transactional Analysis. I also offer creative ways of working.

All of us experience challenges as part of life. When these are traumatic or overwhelming, they deplete our energy, create blockages, hinder healthy functioning, disconnect from our power and take us out of our inner alignment. Despite being outwardly successful, you may feel that something is missing within you and you are not truly yourself. There are many reasons for why this might have happened and for some people this starts very early in their childhood, for others later in life and in both instances, there are ways in which these experiences can be explored and transformed into an inner healing and positive growth process.

We all face difficult times in life, in fact I think we could just say, life is difficult. In counselling you will be thinking with another person about how you manage life’s struggles, how you relate to friends and family and how your present situation may be related to your past experiences. Talking and thinking with another can bring about a new perspective to old problems or worries and help you find new ways of approaching things. in. In my experience even small changes can have a very positive impact. Speaking to someone might feel a bit daunting to begin with but I find people soon settle in.

In troubling times it can sometimes feel like you are alone & seeking help might feel really difficult. Just having a space to make sense of the thoughts that jumble around our heads is invaluable. Perhaps you need to understand yourself, your relationships or events from your past. Sometimes all we need is someone to just listen and hear our story. Counselling promotes insight, fosters self-awareness & creates a stronger, more resilient sense of self. This powerful combination can be the kick-start for the changes in your life you wish to make - sometimes even the smallest changes can make a huge difference in your well-being.

Choosing a counsellor with whom to connect and build a trusting therapeutic relationship can feel daunting, even risky, yet also empowering and hopeful. Together we can explore what you feel ready and safe to share - whether these are current, buried or almost forgotten experiences. I will be at your side to listen; endeavouring to relate to your unique circumstances and way of being; facilitative of your change and growth process.

Women's Issues Counsellors
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
