You are the expert on yourself an only you can decide what might work for you. We will form a plan together, perhaps over the course of two to three sessions, of how we can proceed, and what we collaboratively believe is going on for you. You will find my practice is based on a humanistic, integrative, pluralistic blending of possibilities from several frameworks, including CBT, Gestalt, Compassion Focused Therapy, ideas from psychodynamic practice, with a person-centred, humanistic core.

I am best suited to those who want to understand themselves and those around them - or to understand what has happened to them. This inquiry is often prompted by some degree of difficulty; illness, loss, trauma, breakdown etc. but it can equally arise out of a pervading sense of depression, purposelessness or malaise about life. When one has some understanding of oneself and how a situation came about then life becomes much easier to navigate - an adventure even. Every situation, every person, every path, is unique and so every therapy is entirely individual.

IFS support stands for “Internal Family Systems,” This informed trauma therapeutic approach, focuses on understanding and integrating different parts of the self.
Are you caught in a cycle of broken relationships, battling Self sabotage, shame, and low self-esteem? Does anger, addiction, or a yearning for change linger in your thoughts, yet you're uncertain where to begin? Perhaps your upbringing was marked by hostility, abuse or you felt unseen & unheard by emotionally distant parents? Whether your struggles stem from short-term or prolonged trauma, navigating its impact on your daily life leaves you feeling adrift, disconnected and unsure how to separate the past from the present.

My work is informed by attachment, family systems, psychodynamic and polyvagal theory.
When we are bereaved it can feel as if our whole world has shattered and there is no one who understands. Whether or not our loss was expected, when someone dies it can seem as if we have been forced to walk through a door that we didn't even know was there. There is no way back. The outside world moves on fast, not realising what it's like to be left behind in a blizzard of complex feelings. People often try to cheer us up in a way that just makes us feel worse. If we have been bereaved it can be hard to talk to a parent who has their own worries, or there may simply be no words. There is no right or wrong way to grieve.

Through exploration of your family systems, dynamics and the roles you play in life, you can discover so much about yourselves, things that you just accept and perhaps why.
I have worked for many years helping my clients to accept themselves for who they are and how they survive in the hidden world that goes on inside their heads, the world where fear holds them back and keeps them stuck. The world we are all familiar with, the place we go when we put our heads on our pillows at night and we know! I believe that through honest exploration, reflection and acceptance of our past, we can start to accept ourselves and begin to build our self-esteem, self respect, our confidence and compassion for ourselves. We can embrace the parts of us that work and let go of the parts that don't, we can change.

I am an experienced, welcoming and open-minded counsellor. Exploring in-depth what is troubling us with someone who is really listening, not just to your words but to the person behind them, can in itself be a healing process. It may also bring to light beliefs and ways of living that are holding you back. I draw on a range of integrative talking therapies (including Internal Family Systems). When something more is needed than talking alone, Brainspotting (a somatic therapy that evolved out of EMDR) can offer a gentle but powerful way to access deeper areas of the brain where emotional difficulties arise.

Family Systems therapists view problems within the family as the result not of particular members' behaviors, but of the family's group dynamic. The family is seen as a complex system having its own language, roles, rules, beliefs, needs and patterns. The therapist helps each individual member understand how their childhood family operated, their role in that system, and how that experience has shaped their role in the current family.
