Hi, my name is Emma and I am a qualified Person-centred counsellor (MBACP). Being Person-centred means that the sessions I offer are client-led, valuing the unique experience of each individual. We can all face times in our lives where we feel like we need extra support or just a listening ear. I believe that, as a counsellor, I can provide both of these things as well as a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to explore and make sense of your thoughts and feelings. My aim is that during our sessions together my clients will feel empowered and valued and eventually able to find their own solutions.

I have extensive experience counselling in the third sector as well as general counselling practise in a GP surgery. OCD is constantly changing. Just as you find a way to shut it up, it finds a sneaky way to come at you - a new variation of an intrusive thought, a new behaviour it convinces you to do, a new topic completely it jumps to. It's a slippery so and so, which is why working with an experienced therapist is so important. Effective treatment isn't just about the intrusive thought that is at the front of your mind right now, it's about tackling any cycle where you are acting as if your intrusive thoughts are true when they absolutely are not. Treatment isn't easy, most people have had OCD for years before therapy. But recovery is possible!

Change may be a natural part of human life, but it can be hard to understand the loss of a close relative, friend or lover or other difficult sudden events and to figure out what happens now. The emotional effects of a change can knock you off balance influencing the way you think and feel about yourself now and in the future. I have a real interest in the emotional impact of life changes and how they influence our emotions. One-to-one therapy gives you the time and place to help make sense of difficult events in your life.
