Are you feeling so overwhelmed that you feel out of your depth? Or experiencing a sense of loss, unable to cope? Fear is our worst enemy, and we will try and find a way of taking back control. If you feel you are struggling there is a strength in reaching out for support. Counselling helps you to gain a better understanding of self through the therapeutic process, and I believe we are all unique and have the potential to change, therefore develop a belief in your ability to cope. You will begin to make sense of the past and begin to recognise your true self.

We are currently living in a really unprecedented, uncertain and confusing time. Anxiety can rise, health anxiety feels very real, we can feel confused and lonely wondering how can we reach out and feel less alone, along with feeling listened to and supported. At the moment, every day there are new messages from the media, social media, and even the Government, which can feel overwhelming. Being able to sit with the unknown, the uncertainty of what will and is happening can feel really challenging.

As a integrative counsellor, I use a range of approaches, including Humanistic, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, as well as coaching interventions.
ADHD does not come with a user manual. The growing recognition of ADHD among adults has left many feeling helpless, yet with a strong desire for change. I support adults, whether formally diagnosed or not, to understand themselves, identify strengths and needs, and pursue fulfilling lives.

Hello and welcome to my Profile. You may be wondering is counselling for me? It may have been suggested to you that you need to get some counselling but you're unsure what it is and if it will work for me?! To begin with i always say to my clients 'for counselling to work you need to find the right counsellor for you. Are you someone who is feeling they are struggling with day to day living but not sure why, is it hard to talk about, are you confused or are you embarrassed or ashamed to talk about it even to loved ones.

I am in my sixth and final year studying a Masters in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy at the Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling.
I welcome clients facing a wide range of difficulties in their lives and offer a safe, non-judgemental space to listen and help you find ways to move on. You can bring all your feelings - whether anger, loneliness, anxiety, fear, shame, simply being stuck - and together we can make sense of where these feelings come from. In doing so, we can reduce their hold on you.

Your decision to explore counselling may be prompted by any number of reasons. You may have experienced the loss of somebody close to you. Perhaps your life is confused right now due to challenging personal or work relationships. You may be experiencing depression or fear or loneliness. Or you may wish to look at yourself and reflect on your patterns of behaviour in a new way. Counselling offers an opportunity to be your full self, to express any thoughts and feelings you may have and still feel fully accepted.

I’ll use a mix of humanistic approaches and I’ll provide a space to find, explore and understand new ways of dealing with the issues or problems you’re facing.
It’s when you sense, or realise, that things can’t remain the same and yet you feel frozen, unable to act, and you don’t know what to do. A personal crisis might leave you feeling powerless and anxious. Then you find that the ways in which you generally deal with problems aren’t working: the people you’d usually turn to for support aren’t enough, they might be too involved with the issues you’re facing. You might also feel unwell. It’s not uncommon to feel anxious, depressed or emotionally fragile. This is when counselling can help. I offer Face to Face, Walk and Talk, Online and Telephone Counselling.

I draw on humanistic, psychodynamic and mindfulness methods and am flexible - I will always aim to take my lead from your needs.
Counselling is for anyone and everyone. You might have a specific thing you want to work on – pain from your past or worries about the future. Or you might have a general sense that something is stuck, that this isn’t quite the life you’d expected. Counselling offers the opportunity for us to develop a creative partnership , where we can work together to explore both what is troubling you and your potential in life and to support you to find a sense of freedom to be your true self. Counselling is not an easy option, it can uncover painful feelings, but it can be a step on the way to feeling better and more at peace with yourself.

Humanistic Counsellors

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualisation and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioural therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
