Child Psychotherapy helps a child or young person explore & make sense of their reactions to a situation, event or internal struggle. This can be associated to worries about a range of difficulties including: family breakdown, transition, loss & bereavement, peer & sibling relationships, anxiety & depression.

When you're going through a challenging time working with someone who has supported many others in similar situations is a great way to move forward. I can support you to take some time out of the same old experiences, to invest in yourself so you can be happier and enjoy what life has to offer. It's possible to work with me one to one or in your couple.

Many of us can be our own harshest critic...never feeling good enough, never feeling as if we are "enough", not wanted or unloveable...these thoughts understandably have a big impact on our wellbeing and day to day functioning. It's not just you that feels this way - many of us struggle with these thoughts and feelings at times, but particularly if we've experienced adversity or trauma, this may have become the "norm" in the way we think about ourselves. But this can change. And when we start to think about ourselves and relate differently to ourselves, the world feels like a much better place!

Asking for help is not always easy, especially when you’re struggling with something that’s very close to you. I understand how daunting that first step of reaching out and contacting a therapist can be, which is why I always strive to provide a safe, friendly and non-judgemental space for therapy sessions. I am committed to working alongside you and through mutual discussions providing you with the strategies and tools that are the best fit for you. I have a special interest in transgenerational influences which can present as childhood trauma, attachment difficulties, anxiety and personality disorders.

Working face to face and online with adults, young people and older children, I offer daytime, evening and weekend appointments and charge £65-£85 per session. Difficult relationships with others and challenging traumatic events have a huge impact on our mental and physical health. Often we deal with these by distracting ourselves and numbing these uncomfortable feelings. I help clients process and work through these feelings in a safe and nurturing environment.

When we experience difficult life events we develop ways of coping and finding a way forward. Later in life, this can result in behaviours and emotions that are no longer serving us. This might present as difficulties such as depression, anxiety, eating difficulties or substance use, but you may simply feel 'stuck' or unsatisfied with life. It is likely that in our work together we will need to talk about your past experiences and important relationships, and explore patterns of behaviour and relating to others and yourself in the here and now, to consider what has brought you to this point and how to create meaningful change.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
