SLOTS Available Autumn/Winter 2024! Hi I’m Catherine, Clinical Psychologist. I generally work with individuals struggling with their mood, anxiety, coping or dealing with the past. I aim to offer a friendly, non-judgemental space, where we can get stuck in to understanding how you tick, to work through the problems you bring. You might have a clear idea of what you want, but I otherwise draw on various therapy approaches to personalise strategies so you can do what works for you, to make the changes you need. I work with anxiety disorders (including panic, phobia, stress, OCD), PTSD, depression, and I have a keen interest in ASD.

I understand that life can be overwhelming, but I’m here to guide you through those obstacles. My goal is to help you understand yourself more deeply through your journey with me, and get you back on track. My sessions are designed to unravel painful issues and provide you with effective tools to be able to heal. Taking action creates a sense of liberation and a feeling of letting go of the despair associated with insignificance and meaningless. It creates a feeling of growth and promotes the embracing of life and to exist with wonder and curiosity. I've been honoured to be endorsed by Her Grace the Duchess of Rutland and Source.

Hello Im Steph, an accredited CBT therapist specialising in supporting people with anxiety and low self-esteem. I understand how exhausting and overwhelming it feels to carry the burden of self-doubt. Not feeling good enough, overthinking everything and feeling like an imposter. I understand how isolating it can feel, especially if you have become skilled in masking your true feelings to the outside world.

Hi. I'm an experienced CBT psychotherapist, working face to face and online with people experiencing: OCD, panic, general anxiety, phobia, trauma, procrastination, health anxiety and chronic worry. Having developed coping strategies and changing the way I engage with my own anxious thoughts, I made the decision to train and help other people do the same. I wish I’d known about CBT when I was in my 20s! I have worked in private practice for 5 years and trained and worked previously with the NHS. I have Acceptance and Commitment Therapy training and attend regular workshops in all areas to keep my practice up to date.

Finding a therapist starts with you and your needs. You may arrive with a sense of overwhelm, loss or anxiety, perhaps desiring change but without knowing how or believing you can. We can work together to explore how you feel, think and behave, and find a way to bring you back to your authentic self. I am able to work with adults and older teenagers (16+), as well as those training to be Psychotherapists themselves, and have a broad experience of short and long term work, presenting issues and ages, diagnoses and personalities.

I incorporate mindfulness and compassionate approaches into my clinical work. I aim to provide a compassionate, non judgmental, therapeutic environment to clients and understand how difficult it can be to reach out for support. I will do my best to help you feel comfortable and at ease whilst helping you to achieve your goals.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
