I imagine if you have come this far, there is something causing you distress. This may be related to overwhelming emotions, anxiety, relational difficulties or reoccurring and intrusive memories which continue to traumatize you. Perhaps you have experienced a significant loss or bereavement in your life and you seem unable to move on from painful grief and fears of abandonment. Maybe your early life was fraught with absent, inconsistent, frightening or abusive parenting, leading to low self esteem. You may also be aware of how this impacts on your ability to trust and reach out for care, or a constant need to be around others.

Hi, how are you? Are you feeling stressed, perhaps a little depressed/low mood, or suffering with low self esteem, fear or issues such as anxiety ( including generalised anxiety disorder) anger? Panic attacks, self-harming, it might be that life has been just difficult to manage: relationships, childhood trauma, bereavement. If any of this sounds familiar, I might be able to help.

In therapy we explore the impact the client's past has upon their behavioral and lifestyle choices in the present and we are able to build a picture unraveling blocks and barriers to the client's happiness and clarity of focus.
Over the years most of the client issues I have encountered encompass loss and control in some way, shape or form. Many clients feel out of control, and helpless or in complete despair, and would like to be able to clear a pathway for themselves to work out a more manageable way of living with less anxiety. Clients want to be listened to, and for some that is a rare luxury as friends and family often have their own agenda. Regular reviews to reflect where a client is, in relation to their therapy journey are part of the therapeutic process and help to build trust and structure.

As an integrative counsellor, I have built my practice on the foundation of the Person-Centered approach. I believe by giving my clients the right conditions and by connecting with them at a deeper level it will lead to positive change. I use Psychodynamic approach to help my clients look deeper into their unconscious mind or their past which may influence their behavior, thoughts and feelings in the present day.

The therapy hour is a time for someone to simply be who they are, an experience that is surprisingly difficult to have in a world filled with harsh demands, expectations, and at times tragedies. Often the people I work with have found themselves stuck in difficult patterns of feeling, thought and behavior that they find to be out of their control, preventing this experience of simply being themselves. We use words like anxiety, depression, and disorder to describe these patterns. As a therapist my aim is to help introduce a greater sense of freedom and control over one’s own life within a space where moral judgments have no place.

Art therapy enabled me to process my own past traumas, it has given me the empathy and determination to help others to see more clearly what is going on for them in the present, often through gaining a better understanding of their past. I work mostly with adolescents (aged 12-25), and primary/junior school children. Helping them to process issues such as anxiety, bullying, stress, identity, behavioural issues, grief and bereavement.

Behavioural Issues Counsellors
What happens in therapy for behavioural issues?
No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behaviour issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.
What therapy types help with behavioural issues?
Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioural therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.
How long does therapy last for behavioural issues?
Among popular approaches to treating behavioural concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behaviour management, often used when the underlying cause of behaviour issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioural issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.
How effective is therapy for behaviour issues?
Studies show that therapy for behaviour issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behaviour later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behaviour. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
