Have you ever felt desperate or confused and not known where to turn or what help to ask for? Here at Cheshire Wellness Centre, we’re a wellness centre with a difference. We endeavour to provide a place that’s safe, where people can go when it gets too much. When it comes to mental health, we know there’s no quick fix or one-size-fits-all solution; everyone’s journey is unique, every day is different. That’s why our holistic approach is focused on overall wellbeing, rather than just traditional counselling.

More than ever life is fast, aggressive, complex and tiring, all too easy to find yourself snared in a difficult place and unable to find a way out whatever the issue is. My aim is to help you to a more secure and confident you, for you to feel lighter and happier again. Working in a leafy rural setting, the barn is a therapeutic place to reconfigure yourself and reflect on what you need to do to be in a better place and take what steps are needed to get there. Having a safe place to vocalise, reflect and then clearly see what's needed ensures this process can be highly beneficial, enabling you to feel connected and happy again.

I am a Counsellor based in Manchester offering In person and online sessions. Life can be challenging, and in places it can feel intolerable and overwhelming it can be difficult to know where to start unravelling this, how to make changes, what changes, if any, we need to make, and to try to make sense of why we feel the way that we do. This can be a very painful experience but however dark it may be today, doesn't mean tomorrow won't be lighter, counselling can offer an opportunity to be heard and to be understood. I work with clients from all backgrounds but have particular experience working with Addiction and with LGBT+ issues.

Hi, my name is Nicholas. I am a fully qualified counsellor and counselling supervisor, working in private practice. I offer counselling supervision for both student and qualified counsellors, and one 2 one counselling. As an Integrative counsellor, I draw on a variety of approaches to make best use of the time and the space for you. I believe working with the person in the room is the key rather than working directly with the presenting issue. I tend not to work on specialisms but do have extensive experience of working with adults and young people with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, low self-esteem, bereavement and loss.

Counselling doesn’t have to be due to trauma, a major disaster or tragedy…Sometimes you just need to know somebody cares. Whatever it may be, if it creates feelings of dissatisfaction, disillusionment or pain, You may hear yourself saying ‘Help’. Help is the beginning of not giving up, a place where sometimes if we are honest, we all find ourselves. Asking for help permits someone to help you to reveal your own solutions. Because only you knows what is right for you. I believe that the client always knows what is best for themselves. However, sometimes we all need a little help to find out just what that is.

Choosing a therapist can be a tricky task, there are just so many! Perhaps taking a moment to pause and check inwardly for a 'felt sense' about a potential match may help you decide. This experiential practice is known as 'focusing'. I frequently invite my clients to pause and check for a bodily felt sense as I believe talking about a problem is not always enough. My approach to psychotherapy is integrative, drawing on humanistic, cognitive (CBT) and Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS). I am also currently training in EMDR therapy.

Feeling overwhelmed or unsure how to move forward? You are not alone. Whether you are dealing with too much pressure, struggling to connect, or facing life's challenges, taking the first step to reach out is significant. I welcome everyone in my practice, especially those who see the world in different ways. As someone who is autistic and understands the ups and downs of neurodivergent conditions, including receiving a diagnosis, I deeply resonate with what you might be experiencing. If you want to understand yourself and others better, my role is to support you therapeutically throughout this process.

Hi and thank you for visiting my profile. Opening up can be hard, I feel it is better to share a problem than to deal with it yourself. I enjoy helping people make sense of their experiences and finding different ways of living. I value hearing each person's story and helping you to find inner calm, clarity and understanding.

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
