Choosing a counsellor is a big step which can feel daunting. How do you find the therapist who will be right for you? If you are new to counselling, the various theoretical approaches listed by therapists can be confusing. Current research shows that more important than the theory is the therapeutic relationship (the relationship between you and me) and this is the cornerstone of my work. My theoretical approach is Integrative, drawing on the Psycho-dynamic, Humanistic and Existential schools within a relational working model which emphasizes the Humanistic philosophy and embraces Person Centered core process.

I integrate several types of psychotherapy (analytic, humanistic, existential, CBT).
I see clients individually or in couples, who are suffering from all kinds of anxiety and unhappiness,or are feeling lost or stuck. You may be having problems at work, with self-esteem or in your relationship with a partner or friends. You may need to work through trauma, including bullying and relationship loss. If you are a couple, I will help you to analyze what has gone wrong; and have you learn to nurture your relationship by thinking together and working out how to support each other.

My work is relational, experiential, existential and psychoeducational.
I believe that every individual has the capacity to live a nourishing life and deserves to feel fulfilled. However because of past or present experiences, as well as learnt behaviour, we can find ourselves stuck with unwanted feelings, desperately wishing that partners, parents, friends or situations were different. In these moments we can feel powerless and unable to speak our truth, so it is important to have an external guide, who can help us navigate through the storm and find our voice. I am committed to helping my clients reach a place of empowerment and well-being, by becoming the best versions of themselves that they can be.

I work integratively, which means that I strive to combine the best aspects of the various modalities of psychotherapy - Psychodynamic, Humanistic and Existential - for the benefit of my clients Beyond this, I embrace the Transpersonal approach, which takes a modern view on issues of spirituality and what it means to be human, and to be conscious.
How we experience ourselves, other people, and the world in general, is unique to each of us. Through psychotherapy, you can make significant and lasting beneficial changes in your life, and I can provide the reflective space and conditions needed to explore what troubles you, and through this, gain the insight and understanding that enables you to make the changes you need.

My practice is informed by psychoanalytic and existential approaches.
Psychotherapy will be different for each of us. My priority is to create a space for you to speak about your thoughts and feelings free from judgement. Through the careful discussion of your experiences, we can make better sense of the challenges you face. This process is not always easy but can lead to greater self-understanding and future wellbeing.

My role is to create a space where you can reflect deeply, delve inward, and discover your truth. Through this exploration, you will gain more choices in how you respond to and manage life’s challenges in the future.

I draw on a range of modalities depending on the needs of my clients this includes psychodynamic work, considering how past experiences or relationship patterns are affecting you unconsciously in the present, reflecting on the existential themes that we all must deal with; drawing on useful CBT techniques.
As a qualified integrative therapist who practises relationally, I believe the quality of our relationships - both past and present, has a huge effect on our sense of self, our self-worth and our ability to manage powerful emotions and moods. I have helped clients who have experienced childhood trauma and other difficult relationships and can help you to reflect on your own harmful relationship and behaviour patterns, to let go of unhelpful coping mechanisms which once served you. We will consider what has happened to you rather than what is wrong with you, as well as how to move forwards and make better choices.

My initial interest in Existential therapy was informed by my personal and professional experiences. Throughout the years I have explored diverse ways of supporting my clients, looking to improve their emotional and spiritual balance. Existential therapy encapsulates all my core beliefs about the therapeutic process and the powerful therapeutic connection between psychology and philosophy. It is anchored in the lived experiences (not their theoretical representation) and their relational context. It relates to human existence and predicaments, our choices and responsibilities, meaning and purpose, freedom and limitations.

Existential Counsellors

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioural therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
