I have also worked with clients who are in substance recovery.
You may already know what you want from therapy or you may feel that something is not quite right but you’re not sure what. Perhaps you’re looking for help to make sense of your current feelings. Maybe you are feeling painful emotions or want to improve relationships or get a better understanding of yourself. Perhaps you're feeling unsettled due to bereavement, separation, or health issues. Maybe you're feeling anxiety or stress. Well done for admitting that things aren't quite right and for starting your journey to bring back control. Counselling can provide a confidential space to bring clarity and order to your thoughts.

Like all accredited therapists, I work with a wide spectrum of issues, but I specialise in Anxiety, Addiction, OCD & Codependency (key characteristics are: people pleasing, taking too much responsibility in any relationship, unhealthy boundaries, low self worth, over dependancy, poor self care, minimising or being unable to identify your needs.
I am a warm, intuitive & dynamic Transpersonal Integrative Therapist with a special interest in creative practice. Working integratively means I draw on a variety of therapeutic techniques, from exploring the impact of early life dynamics on the present, to CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy). The Transpersonal element adds depth and creativity to the process, examples of this are: helping you find wisdom and meaning in your struggles, using creative tools (e.g. bodywork, drawing, voice/sound, the written word) and most importantly, offering space for your authentic self, who you are under the wounding and conditioning, to flourish.

Whether it is anxiety, depression, addiction or another issue something is maintaining it to the point that you just can’t shake it off.
I offer short term Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which will enable you to better understand what is maintaining a particular issue so that we can work together towards making you feel better. To be clear you are the expert on you and my role is to support you so that you may help yourself without having to spend an inordinate amount of time having therapy or continually returning to therapy. I offer an initial six entirely confidential sessions at a safe space in North Dulwich. Alternatively I am also qualified in Gestalt humanistic therapy too for if the issue runs a bit deeper and the support needed is longer term.

At certain points in everyone lives, there comes a time when life, work, family, loss, or the unhelpful ways you cope with stress can become overwhelming. I have worked with many people for over sixteen years who have experienced relational difficulties, I have experience in working with people who suffer with anxiety, depression, work related stress, relationship difficulties, addiction and addictive disorders, bereavement and loss. People who have been in recovery from addiction, and young people who have found self-isolation and lockdowns from Covid-19 too much to manage. Even though everyone has stopped talking about Covid.

The world can be frustrating when you get tangled up in unhealthy thinking patterns. You can feel lost, or overwhelmed, with moments of real darkness. That is where I can help. If you lose control of your anger or your anxiety holds you back, we can unpack what makes you tick. If you hide your emotions in harmful behaviour, we can uncover them. What I enjoy most is helping people to build healthy relationships with themselves and others. I used to this when working with the Prince's Trust and Mind, the leading UK mental health agency. This gave me insight into those dealing with addiction, anxiety and depression.

With over 25 years of experience, ranging from addiction through to sexual and emotional abuse, anxiety, depression, anger and numbness, I'd like to support you. In recent years I have moved my work focus to integrating Internal Family Systems (IFS) as I find this way of working empowering to the client, engaging and highly effective. It may be you hear a loud critical voice inside or joy and fun may be fleeting or missing, you might like to access them again (or for the first time!). If your goal is a compassionate, connected, creative Self then maybe Internal Family systems be what you are looking for in therapy.

I work with issues around anxiety, addiction, work, relationships, body-image and self esteem.
Are you struggling to feel happy in yourself, and feel like everything you try to make yourself feel better isn’t working? Perhaps things you do may be causing distance between your friends and family yet you don’t know how to stop. Your work life, food and exercise routines may feel out of control, or that they’re running your life. All this can leave you feeling isolated, alone and grasping for unattainable goals. On the outside, things may look OK but inside you feel empty, with no sense of who you are and who you want to be.

I am an NHS Consultant Psychologist leading a gambling addiction service.
We could all do with help sometimes. I get it. Our world is imperfect and challenging and there is no way to know what life throws next. You may have experienced a loss or trauma and others around you cannot grasp its magnitude. Or you may have resorted to ways of coping that harm you and cannot break free. Or perhaps you are tired of recurrent disappointments, rejections, criticism that have affected how you feel within yourself and your relationships. Forming a genuine connection with each other in therapy will hopefully make it possible for you to work toward changes or make what you cannot change easier to bear.

What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.
How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.
How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.
How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
