I specialise in working through relational and developmental difficulties, racial and intergenerational trauma, and women's health.
Taking the step to start therapy can sometimes feeling overwhelming, and it's difficult to know who to contact. I hope to offer a non-judgemental and warm space where people can make sense of their current difficulties and create meaningful change in their lives. My approach focuses on a person's strengths and values, whilst using an integrative approach. I am currently working across the NHS specialising in Maternal Mental Health and Community Psychology, alongside working on the Clinical Psychology Doctorate training programme at University College London and providing an independent clinical psychology service.

I work in a relational and empathic style that creates a safe working environment for us to explore what may arise.
Hi, my name is Charlotte. I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist with an MSc in Transactional Analysis. I know that coming to therapy can often feel difficult and scary. The desire to want to change often comes out of finding yourself stuck in the same place. This can feel confusing and even overwhelming, so finding the right therapist for you is essential. Together, we will work on making sense of the mental blocks you’ve hit to unlock new ways of thinking through the past in order to awaken present. I am a warm, empathic and direct counsellor who can offer you a confidential space to explore yourself deeply and in your own time.

As a pluralistic practitioner, I work collaboratively with you by drawing upon Relational Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Person Centred and Experiential methods to work in a way that feels right for you.
You may be looking for a therapeutic space to explore what you’re going through right now. If you find yourself experiencing similar patterns in your relationships, home life or even your career, sometimes it may help to explore your past to understand if it's playing a role in your current experiences. Alternatively, you may be looking for ways to manage your current feelings and need a space outside of your daily routine to decompress and try to find a new way of coping with life’s stressors. Together, we can work towards finding a therapeutic approach that prioritises your needs and allows you to feel heard.

As a practitioner psychologist, I recognise that emotional, psychological, behavioural, and relational difficulties usually have multiple causes and therefore different therapeutic methods will be helpful for different people at different times.
Typically, I work with people struggling with anxiety, despair, anger, and shame; who wrestle with guilt, mistrust, addiction, and dissociation; who are self-critical, self-destructive, and trapped in repeated patterns of hurting self/others. Such feelings, behaviours, and patterns of relating often stem from multiple, complex life events and circumstances, including past/present abusive and neglectful relationships, discrimination, bereavement, trauma, gender expectations, parenthood, study/work/financial pressures, and more existential challenges such as one's relationship to meaning, responsibility, authenticity, and mortality.

Life can take unpredictable turns, leaving us in pain and disbelief. At times we get over it. At other times we dwell in there for a long time as if there was no way out. It may feel lonely and unexplainable and yet time passes by. My name is Erika Mancini. I am a Relational Transactional Analysis Psychotherapist and EMDR Therapist. I specialise in trauma, childhood trauma, PTSD, Complex PTSD, anxiety, depression and relationships. I believe we are all shaped by the relationships we experienced while growing up and that this can sometimes result in adaptations or coping mechanisms that may prevent us from becoming who we really are.

I have experience working effectively with a broad range of emotional and relational issues.
If you feel stuck in despair, anxiety or loneliness, feel out of your depth, or find the same old relational patterns keep repeating, therapy can help. You don't have to grapple alone. Therapy offers a non-judgemental, confidential relationship for exploring patterns and processes together, bringing curiosity to what might be happening out of awareness, and supporting you to think about how you might become freer and more fulfilled in the ways you respond to self, others and situations.

My aim is to help you identify and explore defence mechanisms that unconsciously crept into your life and create a trusted bond essential to build awareness of the both, self-destructive relational patterns as well as unfulfilled needs.
There are things that you might find yourself struggling with, such as, trying to seek meaning and purpose in life, work problems, relationship difficulties, addiction or mourning the losses and changes that are happening to our planet. You might be feeling adrift in a rapidly changing world, alone, cut off from others or caught in a trap and doing things that you do not find fulfilling anymore. Perhaps you are angry, anxious, depressed or having thoughts of suicide and you are unsure of how to cope with these feelings. Let’s create together a space where mutual understanding and trust is highly valued.

There are many reasons why we enter psychotherapy, such as at times of unhappiness, difficulty or crisis. We may be struggling in our relationships, experiencing low self-esteem or suffering from a loss of meaning. Relational and developmental trauma symptoms can undermine our ability to fulfil our potential and/or form secure connections with others. Because our wounding often takes place in relation to another it follows that so too can our healing. My intention is to offer a compassionate, attuned and empathic presence, which can support a shared enquiry into your authentic experience, within a safe and non-judgmental space.

Relational Counsellors

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioural or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioural therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
