Finding a therapist that "feels right" can be a daunting prospect at a time when you may already be feeling overwhelmed. I offer a space that is safe and without judgement, where you can start to make sense of your feelings. I am interested in how we relate to each other and what makes us connect as human beings. Working relationally, I take notice of what happens between us as this will reveal something of your relationships with other people. I believe that once we gain a better understanding of our experience and what motivates us, we can make new choices, rather than being driven by old patterns of behaviour.

People consider starting therapy for a variety of challenges. Sometimes you may find yourself repeating patterns from the past, getting stuck in relationships which may not be helpful to you or you might be overwhelmed by feelings of depression or anxiety. I offer an attachment-based psychoanalytic approach to therapy, which has at its core an understanding of the importance of relationships throughout life and how problems and distress in the present may be related to early experiences. Making sense of your feelings and experiences will help you develop your own choices and resources to change your life.

Would you like to S T O P... Have time to think about where you are. I offer a comfortable space for shared reflection on 'everything that has happened so far...' You are curious about yourself, maybe with an ongoing mild depression, and which you have had to manage alone. We can explore this together, track these feelings back and find the origins in your early relationships. You will come to see that a better life is possible; you will discover your capacity for greater truth in your relationships as well as compassion for yourself which can help release the blocks which are in your way.

As a human being, psychologist, supervisor and executive coach, I understand how life can be overwhelming. Whether you are coping with anxiety, depression, stress, work, family, relationships, or other difficulties, it's important to remember that there's nothing wrong with you. Overwhelming experiences have a way of taking hold of us and, when coping is no longer enough, seeking support is a courageous next step.

Hi, I’m Lorna, a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist for high achieving professionals and business owners. Prior to working in private practice, I worked in various sectors for over 12 years including the National Health Service (NHS), independent, charitable, education (state and independent schools) and research sectors as a Psychologist and CBT Therapist. I specialise in supporting my private CBT clients to manage stress and high-functioning anxiety - the kind of anxiety that no one really notices because on the outside, you look like you ‘have it all together’. However, the way you feel on the inside is often very different.

"Depression is the common cold of psychopathology and has touched the lives of us all" (Dr Martin Seligman). In my 20 year experience as a CBT therapist I have learned that Seligman is right - everybody will experience at one point in their life depression, anxiety or another form of mental health problems. Some of us will manage on their own, some of us will need help. Seeking help for stress and mental health problems should not have any stigma attached to it - it is one way of dealing with the impact of living in an imperfect world.

People come to counselling/therapy for a range of issues including relationships, stress, fear or anxiety, confidence & self-esteem, procrastination, unhelpful habits or addictions & a whole range of other issues. In the beginning my role is to get to know you, understand who you are, listen why you have come, why you are the way you are, what you might need. I usually ask a lot of questions to find out about you now and what brings you to counselling, a little about your past, to find out how counselling can help alongside considering not only any underlying issues but also how you may want to live your life to your full potential.

At times of difficulty it can be helpful to explore your concerns with a trained practitioner and consider possible solutions in a safe and confidential setting. The focus of therapeutic work is centred on your experience, helping you to clarify the issues that are troubling you, your thoughts and feelings and enabling you to find solutions. This work can provide a way forward and help at times of crisis when difficulties can be extreme, such as depression and anxiety. It can also be helpful when there is a lack of enjoyment of life or recurring difficulties in relationships. Counselling can bring you a greater awareness of choice.
