Female Counselling in Queen's Park, London
Clients I work with often ask themselves “Why can’t I just be more disciplined?” “More confident”, “Less worried”. Before they came to see me, they would go in and out of different diets and workout plans to feel confident and content in their own skin. They felt horrible after eating their favourite dessert and made plans on how to be “better” the next day. Their whole day seemed to revolve around their meals and how clothes fit. They worried it’d be beyond mortifying to look a stranger in the eye and honestly share what has been going on. And they were pretty certain they were never going to like their bodies again.

Perhaps you're feeling anxious or overwhelmed, or struggling to make sense of your life, whether it's because of a recent event, or a build up of issues and feelings over time that are getting in the way of your relationships, your personal and professional life. Maybe you've been trying to cope and "get on with it", but that's not working. In my experience, deciding to get curious about what's going on, face some challenging issues and think about how you'd like things to be different, with someone who will listen without judgement, can be life changing.

Looking to learn more about yourself? Would you like to address a particular mood or thoughts that are consuming your mind? Our unconscious mind can influence us more than we think... "what you resist persists" If you are tired of feeling stuck, going around in circles trying to figure out how to make the “right” choices for yourself, feel more balanced and mindful, then is time to take actions. In our sessions we would work together exploring meaning beyond current and past situations to support awareness and inner freedom so you can achieve your goals and choose to become who you want to be .

Regardless of whether you are in a crisis or not, therapy is a carved out space solely for you. A space of exploration, reflection and full of potential for healing and change. The threshold of looking onto the darker, more despairing side of life is often terrifying and isolating and I am here to help you.

Finding a therapist that "feels right" can be a daunting prospect at a time when you may already be feeling overwhelmed. I offer a space that is safe and without judgement, where you can start to make sense of your feelings. I am interested in how we relate to each other and what makes us connect as human beings. Working relationally, I take notice of what happens between us as this will reveal something of your relationships with other people. I believe that once we gain a better understanding of our experience and what motivates us, we can make new choices, rather than being driven by old patterns of behaviour.

Therapy can be a life changing experience, a time for growth, exploration and personal development. You may be coming in the hope to resolve some past or current experiences or you may feel overwhelmed, confused, lost, stuck. You might be experiencing difficult symptoms and unhelpful behaviours that inhibit you from living your life to the full. Perhaps you struggle in your environment to fully thrive. I welcome people of any gender identity, sexuality or with any relationship style. I deeply respect difference and actively practice anti-racism. Together we can work on whatever might be the right approach for you.

From time to time everyone experiences stress, sadness, anger, relational conflict and grief which we often suffer alone. Accepting help from others can be difficult but maybe you feel you’ve toughing it out on your own for too long. Whether you are struggling with an identifiable trauma or you’ve reached a point where recurring feelings are becoming unmanageable; a course of psychotherapeutic counselling may help you make sense of what is happening and enable you to gain and maintain some stability. Feelings of fear, anger, rejection and lack of confidence are difficult areas and discussing them with friends too raw and personal.

Do you feel overwhelmed, stressed or simply curious about aspects of your personality that you have perhaps not discovered yet? Does life feel a bit much sometimes and you would like to find purpose and feel happier? Do your relationships suffer as a result and does it feel like you do not know what you want or need? Therapy helps immensely with all this as it provides you a new pair of lenses to really meet yourself and re-establish the trust and connection with your heart and soul. This results in connecting with the world around you on a very different level, based on trust and an open heart, which inevitably leads to healing

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
