Perhaps you’re experiencing difficulties in past relationships. Maybe you lack confidence in social situations or generally finding it hard to cope with low self-esteem. Perhaps you are experiencing work-related stress or generalised anxiety, depression or panic attacks. It might be that you simply found yourself stuck in life and can’t find the way forward. Sometimes stressful life events can be so emotionally overwhelming, that we no longer wish to cope alone. I understand how overwhelming life can be at times.

I create a safe, non-judgemental space to listen and help you explore issues with empathy and compassion. My clinical framework is psychodynamic, meaning that I help clients consider how past experiences may relate to their current feelings, behaviour patterns and relationships, with the aim of uncovering the root cause of the problem. I see therapy as a team work to go on an adventure: step into the unknown of your being! My approach is Holistic and Integrative. Holistic means that we work with different layers of your being: your physical, mental, emotional and energetical bodies. If you’re open to, we will work with breath, mindfulness, chakras, energy blocks and dreams. I have seen over and over that the process of healing is quicker when we both go beyond our minds and work with all of us. Working Integratively means that I have a tool box of different approaches and I use the one which is suitable to you at the right time.

Do you find yourself getting easily overwhelmed? Perhaps you are tired of having a busy brain that overthinks, overanalyses, and critiques everything you do. Possibly you’ve been told you’re too sensitive, over-emotional or too caring. Unforeseen change and uncertainty may make you anxious and after periods of socialising, you need alone time to recharge. This might mean you feel different, or boring, leading you to think negatively about yourself. Perhaps you outwardly appear very “together” or successful but hide-away the fact that life seems harder for you than it does for others, leaving you feeling like an imposter.

Creative psychotherapy helps people think, feel and express themselves in a less guarded way. I see individuals, couples, children and families and run retreats in the south of France. I am based near Chiddingfold, Haselmere and Godalming. Through a more playful approach you are helped to feel more at ease. When facing problems it is often difficult to express ourselves in a solely verbal way as unconscious defences can inhibit real engagement with therapy and therefore can fall short of reflecting our true feelings. Psychotherapy has adapted by integrating techniques that draw on creativity.

Hi, I'm Ali. Since you’ve found your way to this page, you’re most likely struggling with something in your life, and may be looking for some help with coping. Feelings and situations in life can be overwhelming and talking to an experienced professional can help you to sort out the jumble and make sense of what’s happening, and what you need. In our counselling sessions, we can talk about whatever is on your mind right now. I'm caring, calm, empathic and easy to talk to. I've seen how counselling can transform the way we think, manage relationships and make decisions about our lives.

We can all experience worry, stress and anxiety, feel low, or lost, or overwhelmed, or just off balance. We can struggle with life as it is now, be haunted by past events, and be anxious about the future. Sometimes we have habits we find hard to break, sometimes it seems no one understands, sometimes feelings are hard to manage. There are times we could all use a little extra help. It is all a part of being human.

It may be that you want to discuss a current life event, or something that has been troubling you for some time. Being listened to with empathy and non-judgement can help you to deal with issues that are causing distress or unhappiness. The cause can be known or they maybe unknown. Relationships can get stuck in repetitive patterns. Issues that therapy can help with and that are often hard to overcome include: low self esteem, relationship issues , depression, childhood trauma, sexual issues, anxiety and stress . I also work with bereavement, loss, addiction and substance misuse , health related issues.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
