You may be feeling low, anxious, stuck or that something is not quite right. Sometimes these feelings can feel too much to cope with on your own and this is where therapy can help. I believe people have the capacity for change and improve their lives. I provide a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space where we can explore what might be the cause of your distress or anxiety. I have worked in the charity sector supporting people for over twenty years and I am currently in my fourth year of advanced clinical psychotherapy training, working toward my MSc in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy and certification as a Transactional

My name is Noor, and I believe our daily experiences are deeply influenced by unconscious desires, which offer invaluable insights into our inner world. My approach goes beyond merely alleviating symptoms; I focus on uncovering the deeper origins and meanings behind them. If you’re grappling with unease, dissatisfaction, or inner conflict, it’s not a sign of brokenness, but an invitation to explore the hidden layers of your psyche—unresolved fears, unmet desires, or past experiences that may be shaping your present life.

I see clients ranging in age from teenagers to the elderly, who present a wide span of issues including anxiety, depression, anger, and family crises. I have experience in working with people who are recovering from addictions and from issues arising from past traumatic events including physical and sexual abuse, illness and bereavement. For many years I have worked at a community-based counselling service where I have engaged with a broad spectrum of clients, living in both rural and urban environments as well as with clients that have peripatetic or military lifestyles.

Problems with a particular relationship is often what brings individuals and couples to relationship counselling and psychotherapy. As an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist I offer a non judgmental space where we can think together about the interaction and the conflicts of this relationship, seek to understand the recurrent patterns of difficulties you are facing and resolve the underlying issues. Counselling and psychotherapy may involve exploring the past to the extent that it influences the present.

Being trained psychodynamically, enables me to look at patterns & coping mechanisms that may have been set down in the past but that are repeating, unconsciously and often unhelpfully, in the present. Often these come to light when a crisis - bereavement; the end of a relationship; redundancy; illness - occurs. Perhaps an overwhelm of anxiety, depression & panic attacks have led you to this page now... By offering an authentic, non- judgemental & confidential space I can help you to explore the difficult feelings which you are experiencing, to enable you to understand and process what is occurring now, so as to navigate the future.

I am here to provide support and to offer a non-judgemental empathic approach. The goal is to assist you in making the changes you need by talking things through in a safe environment.

I use a combination of psychodynamic, attachment-based and Jungian approaches to help individuals think about their relationships. Relationships can be the place where we feel the most creative and alive but they can also leave us vulnerable to abandonment, unhealthy dependancy, feelings of impotence and despair. If you are struggling with intimate relationships, it feels difficult to find a partner, a recent break-up is keeping you hostage or your relationships are following the same pattern, it might be crucial to explore what might be going on underneath the surface.

Therapy is an investment in yourself and your relationships. It can reveal aspects of yourself that you have taken for granted, for example, people-pleasing, self-criticism, overworking, over-rationalizing, dismissing your own needs or emotions. Such patterns of thinking and behaving emerge, because they serve us at different points of our lives. However, what might have served us in adolescence, does not necessarily serve us in adult relationships. My high-achieving clients are often motivated to explore what their specific 'autopilot' entails.

I am a BACP Accredited Gestalt therapist who works holistically and creatively, accompanying you in getting to know and accept all sides of yourself and live a joyous life. I believe that every symptom that manifests in our body (physical, emotional or spiritual) is not separate from our whole existence. Gestalt is a german word that the closest translation is "whole" or "pattern" and as a Gestalt therapist I work with the whole person. I am a long-term yoga and meditation practicioner and I bring my knowledge and experience of the link between mind and body into my sessions.

With 30 years of experience as a BACP registered therapist, I provide authentic, compassionate and insightful support. You may be feeling unhappy and 'stuck' at this point in your life, or may be confused about your life in general. Our past has influenced our present but does not have to determine our future. With support, we can move on and understand ourselves and this is why talking therapy is so useful. We all experience difficulties in life and although you may feel alone, be assured that others have felt the way that you do. I am aware that finding the right therapist can be confusing, hence my low-cost introductory session

Acknowledging you need help and contacting a therapist is a wise and courageous step to take. It might be a current/ recent crisis or on-going emmotional difficulties stopping you from enjoying life. Therapy can be a unique experience which can be transformative, and in which we can safely access the true essence of ourselves. This may enable us to make the desired changes to heal or enhance our life. It is a meaningful journey. Many of life's challenges which are seen as "normal "by society actually involve trauma and loss. These wounds left unattended to can lead to many issues such as anxiety, shame, anger, depression.

As a positive psychologist I can help you out of the overwhelm, away from the anxiety and reducing the panic. • For you - I consider listening and a hearing your story to be paramount. It's often said "there's something about saying it out loud that brings about a shift" and it's true, I've seen it so often. "Fiona's style has been described by clients as 'more than just listening'. 'She is straight talking, informative and balanced but overall has a genuine and kind understanding."

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
