I think we sometimes come to therapy not knowing exactly what it is that's causing us pain. Maybe we feel fear, anger, confusion or just a sense of detachment from who we feel we used to be or could be; sometimes it is only symptoms (such as addictions, eating disorders, OCD) which we can identify. Past, unaddressed, trauma may be arsing or you might be experiencing family or work issues or, maybe, you’re in grief (from a death/relationship breakdown). Whatever your reason for wanting therapy I know that, ultimately, we want to feel better than we do right now.

Hello and welcome, my name is Tina, and I am a qualified Humanistic and Psychodynamic therapist based in London. I am a registered member of the BACP and adhere to all their code of ethics. I truly believe that with the right help and support people can overcome their difficulties in order to live a healthier and happier life. One of my core beliefs is trust. I offer a 15-minute complimentary phone call to establish your reasons for coming to therapy. I like to work with your therapeutic goal in mind and every 4-6 weeks we will have a review to ensure that therapy is fulfilling the therapeutic goal. Sharing your thoughts and feelings with a therapist can help you in making sense of challenging experiences and support you in personal growth and self-awareness. I like to work with Intergenerational patterns in mind and I am interested in the messages we receive from the body looking at somatic exercises and breath work supporting you in releasing tension, stress and anxiety.

As a person-centred counsellor based in north London, I believe that talking can help us feel less isolated with our problems and thoughts.    Sometimes it’s difficult to talk to family and friends; you may not wish to cause worry or distress or you may not want their advice and opinion. I provide an understanding ,  non-judgemental and safe space where you will be heard and where you can bring issues and concerns that may be preventing you from being who you want to be and where you want to be in your life. I offer an initial assessment, which will enable us to see if we connect and whether you feel comfortable within the counsel

We all encounter difficulties in life. It may be that you feel stuck and unable to move forward, to change things in your life and bring in more joy, peace and authenticity. I am here to help you with that. My approach to psychotherapy is relational and client focused. It provides a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space where we can think together about the difficulties in your life and what is causing them. Often, our past relationships and emotional development inform our present life to a much greater extent than we imagine. Together we can work towards creating a happier, more peaceful and more fulfilled life for you.

I am great at supporting people to grow to be the best, most fully functioning version of themselves. The barrier to this is unique to you. You may have a difficult past, problems in the present or fear about the future. I know you'll need to feel safe to speak about deep feelings and it can take time for this trust to develop. It will help if you are willing to be kind to yourself and to work with me to find a way to say the things that feel most difficult or scary. It can be useful to try to be curious about yourself, to notice and name thoughts and feelings as they arise, I will listen without judgment.

We all face emotional difficulties at some point that stop us from enjoying life as much as we would like. Talking to friends and family can be helpful, but sometimes this isn't possible or doesn't feel enough. Whether you're finding things challenging personally or in your relationship, or you have a sense that you could be more connected with yourself and others in your life, therapy can offer a unique opportunity to explore whatever is troubling you, and can help by providing you with support and understanding.

I believe a good personal connection is of vital importance, and hence offer our initial session for free. With so many years in the field I'll almost certainly have experience with whatever you bring, and I'll listen fully and without judgement. Clients often say it's a huge relief to finally share, as the root of so much pain lies in an awful sense of isolation and shame, a feeling of 'What's wrong with me?' We find ourselves nursing a raw wound yet dread being seen as needy or vulnerable. It’s hard reaching out for help, but we consult professionals in all other areas so why not here where it actually matters the most.

For all of us there are times when life becomes too difficult to bear alone. People come to psychotherapy for many reasons. You may have experienced a particular crisis that has left you struggling with powerful or disturbing feelings. Or you might feel overwhelmed by your emotions. Perhaps you feel angry, depressed, lonely or stuck, you might have suffered bereavement, or some other loss. The aim of psychotherapy is, through working and thinking together, to help understand your state of mind. Psychodynamic psychotherapy accepts that we all have an unconscious life, which can exert a powerful hold.

I'm a qualified and experienced Psychosynthesis therapist registered with the BACP, offering short and long term counselling and psychotherapy to adults, as well as plant medicine preparation and integration sessions. This will be in-person at my healing space in north London and on Zoom. Psychosynthesis is psychodynamic in its roots (ie your current problems and behaviour patterns are related to childhood) but takes a humanistic approach ie we look for the potential for self growth in your life challenges and suffering, instead of just trying to fix the problem.

We all face times when life feels overwhelming and we can't seem to find a way forward. You may be feeling anxious or depressed, you may be experiencing relationship difficulties or feel stuck in unhelpful patterns from the past. As an integrative counsellor, I offer a warm and safe space where you can speak freely about whatever is troubling you. Developing a supportive therapeutic relationship with my clients is at the heart of my work. I believe it's the relationships we forge in life that allow us to grow. I also believe that, however great the challenges we face, we all have it within us to change our experience.

I am passionate about peoples stories, there is a richness in Human Connection and the internal world. Therapy is not something that is very sought out in my culture and i found that there is often a disconnect with people from certain backgrounds (E.g Race, Class, Gender, Age etc.) and Mental Health Professionals.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
