I believe that therapy allows you to take a more active role in understanding and experiencing your emotions. When we are not aware of our emotions or ideas, it can mean we act out certain behaviours – or experience certain feelings - without knowing why. And while we might be able to tolerate this for some time – perhaps even for a long time - I believe there is a difference between surviving and living. I work with people who want to understand why they can't assert themselves, find enjoyment in life, make friends, recover from bereavement or the end of a relationship, why they get so angry, have addictions, obsessions and intrusive thoughts or why they don't know what to do about a partner who is controllling or abusive. Alternatively, I can offer EMDR, which is a treatment for trauma and other experiences from the recent or distant past which have adversely affected you.
