I am an experienced EMDR practitioner and I am currently training to be a Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy teacher.
Hi, I’m Hannah. I have worked in mental health services for over 18 years. I enjoy working with clients to help them understand the development and maintenance of their current difficulties, so that it is possible to make meaningful changes using evidence based CBT strategies or EMDR. I incorporate mindfulness and compassionate approaches into my clinical work. I aim to provide a compassionate, non judgmental, therapeutic environment to clients and understand how difficult it can be to reach out for support. I will do my best to help you feel comfortable and at ease whilst helping you to achieve your goals.

As a registered health psychologist who’s experienced first-hand what it feels like to be stressed, anxious and burnt out, I’m here to help. I’m friendly and open-minded with an optimistic outlook and a holistic approach. I’m passionate about what I do and am fascinated by the mind-body connection; it really is a magical system and as humans, we need to understand and appreciate it better. No one teaches us how to understand the mind – it certainly doesn’t come with a ready-made manual – but I love knowing that my work makes a huge difference to others.

I offer a thorough assessment. We’ll work together to develop your bespoke techniques to fall asleep faster, sleep better and feel more energised during the day.

To others it might look like you have everything but that’s not how you feel inside. You’ve tried to get yourself back on track but it’s not working like you hoped it would. Past events play on your mind bringing you down and making you anxious. I can help.

Does your child or young person struggle with anxiety, emotional regulation or meltdowns? Are you struggling to know how best to support them? Does it feel as if their world is shrinking as they avoid situations that feel difficult? It can be hard as a parent knowing how to support young people and how to respond for the best. Young people often value a therapeutic space to explore their experiences and tricky feelings, and parents can benefit from sessions to support their understanding of their child's needs. When families have a good understanding of their child’s needs, they are better able to support them in a sensitive way.

I aim to offer a warm and supportive approach to help you to better understand your difficulties, and move towards a valued life. I am a clinical psychologist trained in several different therapeutic approaches, and hence I offer an integrative approach that is tailored according to the individual. I have experience working with both adults and children, with specialist interests in long-term conditions and neurological disorders (including stroke). I am currently doing a Postgraduate Diploma in Neuropsychology.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
