I am successful in meeting my clients’ many needs through genuine and non-judgemental relating. I have learnt that it is central to be able to gain a clear sense of how people see their world. I have also learnt that creating an environment to help my clients feel safe is essential in building an effective relationship. The person walking through the door may feel helpless, but at the same time they may feel that the process of counselling could do them some good, and so they have hope. I believe each of us has the capacity to love and be loved, to have a zest for life.

I don't believe that there is one method of psychotherapy that suits everyone. I believe in adapting my way of working for each client I meet. You may feel that you want to work short-term on a specific aspect of your life. You may feel that you want to take time to look back on your early life experiences or you may not know where to start or where you are going. Whatever your situation is, I will do my best to see the world as you do and, where possible, offer you an alternative perspective. I believe the same is true for children and using sand tray and art materials I allow children to process their emotions through play.

Hello, I am Aldona. You are here so maybe it means you are thinking about counselling or psychotherapy. Investing in mental health is as important as physical. Anybody can benefit from therapy no matter what age or gender you are. It can be very rewarding because it helps you be the person you want to be. In these times of uncertainty, uneasy economic and political situation; isolation, bereavement and also historic emotional issues could be experienced more frequently and intensively. Difficulties experienced for a prolonged time can lead to somatic problems. “A good life is a process, not a state of being" (Carl Rogers)

You might be coming to therapy because there is a specific situation or issue, that is causing you distress, and leaving you feeling conflicted, or overwhelmed. Or you might come to therapy because you have a sense that your life isn't working out the way that you'd hoped, perhaps there is something missing that you can't put your finger on or put words to. These difficulties could be linked to the way that you see yourself or to patterns in relationships that stop you getting what you want from life. Many difficulties stem not from feelings themselves, but the way that we've learned to manage those feelings or the way we think about those feelings. Therapy provides a safe space to think together about the issues that you face. It is very much a two-way relationship, in which we work together to understand what the underlying difficulties are. We all have a story inside our heads about who we are and who the world is and that story affects how we interpret what is happening in the here and now. Understanding this story can help you to react to the present moment more creatively and with more of a sense of choice.

You come with a desire to develop positive coping strategies, enhance resilience, and cultivate a deeper understanding of yourself and how you navigate life's challenges, and wish to gain insight into patterns of behaviours and to foster healthier relationships. Ultimately, you aspire to achieve a sense of fulfilment and a more authentic connection with yourself and others in your life.

I help people with anxiety, stress and worry (including phobias and insomnia). I understand how debilitating anxiety & worry can be - often physically and mentally draining. It can feel as if anxiety is starting to rule your life. My aim is to help you learn skills to break free from your anxiety and worry, and reclaim your life. I want to work WITH you, rather than doing therapy TO you - after all, you are the expert in you! I'm also passionate about helping you develop the skills to become your own therapist, not reliant on me or tied into long-term therapy.

I welcome people with a wide range of issues and recognise that most people do not bring issues that can be easily defined as a single category. You may have recently experienced a crisis in your life, such as bereavement, loss of a relationship, trauma or illness. Or perhaps you are less clear about why you are finding it hard to cope, you might be feeling anxious, stressed or experiencing unpredictable emotional swings but not be sure about why this is happening. Or maybe you are finding the process of ageing difficult and unsettling.

A very warm welcome to my listing! People often contact me when they are going through some sort of crisis. However, I regard my job as not only helping people resolve anxieties and struggles but working with my clients to produce enduring, transformational change, enabling them to lead happier, more rewarding and fulfilling lives. I aim to produce a warm, empathic, supportive , encouraging environment in which my clients can share and explore their difficulties with me in safety and security and find new ways of being in the world. I am always excited to meet and welcome prospective new clients and to see how we get on together.

Therapy is a process, a time dedicated towards growth and self-knowledge. To start therapy is not an easy step, so welcome! Sometimes stigma and social views towards mental health can be an obstacle in making the decision to start this process. If you are reading this, you may agree that whom is seeking therapy is suffering for a (very personal) reason and this is motivating to find the support you need to overcome your concerns and predicaments in life.

Feeling low? Not sure why? Or maybe you know why but not sure what to do about it. Either way, I am here to help you work through this difficult time. It takes courage to reach out and ask for support so it is important to find a counsellor who you feel comfortable with. I offer a safe, non-judgemental space to help you reflect on your personal experiences, develop self-awareness and make the changes you are looking for, to obtain a more fulfilling life. Asking for support is not admitting you can't cope, it's about looking for ways to help you cope.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
