Existential Counselling in Kingston upon Thames
This approach is called existential psychotherapy, and it values your whole existence.
I offer confidential and creative psychotherapy to individuals and couples. I work worldwide using Zoom, and in-person in London, UK. My clients usually arrive to work through a difficulty – including anxiety and depression, situations with relationships and sex, issues with alcohol or drugs, loss, recent or historic abuse, betrayal, self-esteem, anger, or a sense of being directionless or stuck. I respect the urgency of the situation – the need to find a way through – and the need for that way to be sustainable and authentic to who you are.

I use various modalities in my work, depending on my client's needs, from Psychodynamic approaches through Humanistic, Gestalt, Existential to Transpersonal and Jungian concepts.
LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE. THE TIME IS NOW. I have named my website as the Sacred Voice Therapy, because I truly believe we all have that innermost voice within us. Some call it "gut feeling" others "intuition". However we "label" it, it is always there for us to access it. Are you looking for a long lasting Change? Are you questioning the point of it all? Are you curious about your full potential? Do you want to live your life boldly and fully? Do you have questions around true emotional intimacy? Are you wondering about your inner peace and equanimity?

Working in an integrative relational way, I draw on Humanistic, Psychodynamic and Existential ideas and practice.
Therapy can be an opportunity for you to develop self-awareness, and a deeper understanding of the ways in which you relate to both yourself and others. It can be a place to explore and make sense of the things that are getting in the way of you living the life that you wish to live. This will involve us working together to explore the issues you bring.

I value a collaborative relationship with my clients and draw from a variety of therapeutic techniques, along with various modalities including psychodynamic, existential, transpersonal, gestalt and humanistic practices.
I understand that seeking therapy can be both comforting and daunting, but it can also be liberating and I commend individuals who reach out for help. Our pain can often be a message that there is something amiss in our lives, and I believe it is important that we listen to that message. Whether you are dealing with a difficult time in your life and need help managing the emotions and thoughts, I aim to assist individuals to better understand the relationship between their feelings and thoughts and explore ways to change maladaptive patterns.

I don't believe that there is one method of psychotherapy that suits everyone. I believe in adapting my way of working for each client I meet. You may feel that you want to work short-term on a specific aspect of your life. You may feel that you want to take time to look back on your early life experiences or you may not know where to start or where you are going. Whatever your situation is, I will do my best to see the world as you do and, where possible, offer you an alternative perspective. I believe the same is true for children and using sand tray and art materials I allow children to process their emotions through play.

I welcome people with a wide range of issues and recognise that most people do not bring issues that can be easily defined as a single category. You may have recently experienced a crisis in your life, such as bereavement, loss of a relationship, trauma or illness. Or perhaps you are less clear about why you are finding it hard to cope, you might be feeling anxious, stressed or experiencing unpredictable emotional swings but not be sure about why this is happening. Or maybe you are finding the process of ageing difficult and unsettling.

Maybe you’re thinking and feeling things you don’t want to think or feel. Or maybe feeling nothing at all. Perhaps things keep going wrong; or perhaps nothing changes. It could be you feel you can’t cope. Or something has just come and hit you for six. Counselling is a safe place to explore things like that. It’s a place with the potential for personal change. Fortunately, we humans can change our minds. Literally. A fancy word for this is plasticity. Even more, we are designed to change in each other’s company. It’s how humans learn to fit in. So we make a new relationship, you and I, and this is our vehicle for change.

My first training in therapy was ‘Person Centred’. This therapy places emphasis on providing a safe, empathic, non-judgemental space to discuss whatever is troubling you. I have come to specialise in Trauma and Complex PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). EMDR is clinically proven to heal all kinds of traumatic experiences. More recently, I have begun to incorporate Internal Family Systems (IFS) theory into my practice as it helps to identify different parts of ourselves that can sometimes be in conflict.

Feeling low? Not sure why? Or maybe you know why but not sure what to do about it. Either way, I am here to help you work through this difficult time. It takes courage to reach out and ask for support so it is important to find a counsellor who you feel comfortable with. I offer a safe, non-judgemental space to help you reflect on your personal experiences, develop self-awareness and make the changes you are looking for, to obtain a more fulfilling life. Asking for support is not admitting you can't cope, it's about looking for ways to help you cope.

Existential Counsellors
How does existential therapy work?
Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.
Is existential therapy evidence-based?
Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioural therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.
How long does existential therapy last?
The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.
Is existential therapy effective?
According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
