Hi, my name is Sultana Begum. I am of Bengali origin. Having been raised and lived for over forty years in London, I am a Londoner. I am also British, Asian, a European Muslim, a female, a wife, a daughter, a mother, a sister, an aunt, a friend, a colleague, a neighbour and as well as a counsellor, therapist and many more.... I believe who we are and who we think or believe we should be are not one and the same. I believe in today’s complex world of information overload, we can have many identities and that's okay. However, this can sometimes be overwhelming or confusing, leading to frustration and difficulties in living life full

I am a passionate and experienced integrative counsellor/psychotherapist which means I draw on different therapies to tailor to each unique client I work with. My masters focused on the Psychodynamic approach whereby we try and understand how our past has an impact on our present lives, focusing on attachment/relationships. With my years of experience within the NHS, I work adopting a cognitive behaviour approach (CBT) and a dialectal behaviour approach (DBT) where the focus is providing practical coping skills to help with a clients difficulties. I work with both adults and children.

As we are thrown into the thick of life, it is our response to these circumstances which reveal who we are and where we may want to go. As life is anything but a linear process - we may often stumble or get stuck along the way. We may even describe the stumbling blocks as anxiety, depression, numbness or even shame. Some of our work could involve examining those stumbling blocks and challenging your ideas, choices and reasoning processes. I encourage you to remain open to all aspects and stimulate you to consider ones often overlooked.

Hello, I'm Ashlyn. I am a warm and approachable counsellor registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I work collaboratively with clients to help them understand their problems. Using an integrative approach, I combine various methods to cater to each person's unique needs. I believe a one-size-fits-all method isn't effective, so I tailor my approach to each individual. As your therapist, my role is to create a safe, non-judgmental space for self-exploration, rather than provide answers.

I work with the effect of childhood trauma in adults. Are you constantly feeling overwhelmed, anxious, mood swings, low self esteem, trust issues and even the occasional bodily aches? Yes, past trauma have a habit of holding on to your body, making it difficult to manage your emotions. You want a relief from the constant pain and need to be understood. Sometimes you just want those closest to you to ask the simplest questions like what happened to you? But often times you feel isolated, struggles to connect with people or find meaningful relationships.

Sometimes you may feel like you have lost your voice and who you are; you may feel deeply affected by life events such as a separation , a traumatic event, the loss of someone close to you or the loss of something important to you. You wish to find freedom from those feelings and get yourself unstuck but you find that dealing with those emotions and day to day life is too difficult, maybe because events in your past that you do not want to impact your future, are affecting your present. It could just be that life is happening around you but you find yourself lost in the routine and want to find your dreams again…

My method of practice is Person Centred and Integrative. My sessions are client lead to suit individual’s needs. To enable clients to express themselves and feel Autonomy within the client counsellor relationship. Counselling gives you the opportunity to express difficult and challenging Experiences in our life’s. Teen Counsellors

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
