I am a thoughtful, passionate and committed therapist with experience of working with both adults and young people. My work with families within the local community, in educational settings and for an affordable counselling charity have given me exposure to a variety of different issues. I understand that life can sometimes seem overwhelming and having the ability to listen in a non judgmental and accepting way is paramount.

Life can be overwhelming sometimes, and we can all feel that our fears and issues are controlling our lives and holding us back. Therapy can help to overcome issues that may have been having a negative impact on our lives and help us to redefine our boundaries in life. Sometimes we need more support with life if we are going through an anxious or stressful time and this is when Therapy can help. I offer a completely confidential and non-judgemental environment to talk and explore your options for taking control of your life and making changes. I specialise in offering support for Relationships, Anxiety and Bereavement.

I believe we all have, in ourselves, the ability to work through our own problems; sometimes we just need the space, time and support to do it. Talking through emotional turmoil, life experiences or life changes can help you gain clarity and a better understanding of yourself. Sometimes talking to our friends and family can seem too daunting, often we can’t help wondering if we will be taken seriously and what they might think of us. We don’t want to worry them or think nobody will be interested. What would it be like to talk without judgment or advice? Someone who acts as a thinking partner.

As you have found your way here, you may be feeling that you don't have the resources right now to engage with life as you would wish. There can be times when dealing with life's challenges alone feels too much. Some of my clients comes with painful life experiences, some sensing that they have entrenched patterns that are making them unhappy, some feel low and just don't know why. Others want to embark on a journey of exploration that will allow them to find a more fulfilling way of being in the world. if any of this feels like you do get in touch and see how I can help.

Hi, I'm Nicola. You are here because something isn’t going well in your life & the way that makes you feel isn't something you want to continue tolerating. It takes a lot to challenge familiar patterns because even when we dislike them they can feel safer than change. But my boundaried, thoughtful counselling can support you on your journey to understand what underlies your issues & work out what to do about it.

Hi, I’m Emma and I offer a compassionate and containing space for us to explore what it is that has brought you into therapy and how we can understand what is needed for you to have the full life experiencer that you desire. I offer an eclectic approach to therapy, depending on the needs you are coming for and the age, circumstance and appropriateness of how we will work together. I believe the relationship we hold is at the centre of the healing process and so I will be focused on what that needs to be for you and how that needs to be developed with others too.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
