Like acorns, a change in your life can start small and grow into something strong and powerful. With a focused approach on developing greater self-understanding and awareness, we would work together on the changes you want. I offer a space where people transform who they were into who they want to be.

Sometimes we are in distress or crisis. Maybe our behaviours confuse us or those around us. We may find it hard to be authentically ourselves, or have confusing and conflicting desires or feelings. We might be struggling with acceptance of things we cannot change, or struggling with self-acceptance. Maybe we are experiencing issues in our important relationships, or simply want to understand ourselves better. Perhaps we are just struggling with feeling down and/or overwhelmed. Therapy can be a helpful space to start with all of this. By providing a safe environment to explore the things that bother us, or that matter to us most.

I am a psychotherapist and group analyst and have been a therapist for nearly 30 years in many different settings. In my approach, I am interested in making connections between experiences and difficulties in the present, with events and relationships from the past. In my experience, difficulties people experience as adults can often be part of a repeated pattern. I will be curious about relationships in your life but also the way you relate to yourself and to others. This will include how it is in the therapy relationship - whether individually or group.

I am an experienced psychoanalytic psychotherapist and a BACP-accredited psychodynamic counsellor. I believe that no issue is too small nor too great to bring to therapy – if it causes you pain, you will benefit from opening up about it in the long run. I believe everyone’s internal world needs to be approached with curiosity and openness. My approach is rooted in traditional psychoanalysis but progressive and affirmative of diversity and individual expression. It is suitable for adults of all ages and backgrounds and also LGBTQ/kink and poly-friendly.

If you've got problems, I can help.. As a therapist I am happiest when I am genuinely able to make a difference to someone and help them feel better. I have had a great deal of experience of working with many different people, each one of them with their own unique story, and their own way of seeing the world, each one of them also with the problems that sometimes arise for all of us as human beings trying to live the best we can. Maybe you feel anxious and don't know why? Perhaps you've had things happen that are still affecting you?

Hello, I work close to nature, in a private and quiet garden cabin and my dog Bertie is with me when he feels to! I want to support you to be OK with yourself. Some of the following questions we might over the time we work together: What are your needs and are you able to express them? What you would like to change in your life and how would life be different after counselling? How do you see yourself and the world and how do you feel you are seen? I like to work creatively, using therapeutic tools to help you connect aspects of yourself such as the sandtray, body awareness, and ideas such as the Drama and Winners triangle.

Transgender Counsellors
As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?
A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.
What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?
Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.
How can I recognise a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?
An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognise a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.
How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?
Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
