In a challenging and fast pace world we all need our optimum Self to deal with the demands of life; maintaining and keeping relationships, keeping up the functional aspects of our lives, pursuing dreams and interests, pleasure activities, being at ease when alone, and being comfortable in social settings - friends, events, education and work. Meeting the extra demands that life often presents - relationship breakups, divorce, loss of work, bereavement, mental health issues, loss of home and financial collapse, family turmoil or dysfunctionality, traumatic events, loss of health - requires a robust sense of Self, enabling change.

I am a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist who works in the London Victoria area. My training underlines my belief that sometimes our experiences can leave us feeling insecure or lacking in confidence, making it difficult to form or sustain healthy relationships or cope with everyday life. Talking this through with a psychotherapist can help you to understand and value yourself more. It is not the job of a psychotherapist to tell you what to do but to offer you different perspectives and a different experience of relating.

I am a senior Attachment-based Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and an Analytical Psychologist/Jungian Analyst.
The choice to start psychotherapy may come for a variety of reasons. Becoming aware of repeating patterns of behaviour, struggling in personal and professional relationships, coming to terms with a particular traumatic event, or with feelings of depression, lack of purpose and meaning. Ultimately, there will be a unique reason for each person. Whilst my work takes into account the influence of the past onto the present, it also places as much attention to the future and to the fact that in the present psychological suffering there may be the potential for a meaningful new direction.

I am a Counselling Psychologist proficient in contemporary psychological models and techniques and I have been practicing for 13 years. In our work I will predominantly use psychoanalytic theory to help you make sense of your difficulties. I am passionate about psychotherapy and I firmly believe that it can make life’s challenges more tolerable and life itself more meaningful. Through our dialogue I will seek to build a safe and compassionate space where you can become curious about your mind, get to know yourself in a more honest way, beyond cliché descriptions and labels.

My approach is psychoanalytic, with an emphasis on the meaningful relationship between the patient and the analyst, who curiously engage with the painful problem, symptom, or difficult behaviour. Both client and therapist work together to make valuable improvements to the client’s emotional world, within a stable, consistent setting.

Whatever your particular difficulty, psychoanalytic psychotherapy can help you to engage with it in interesting and unexpected ways.
Present difficulties often have their roots in our past. We are very creative at finding solutions, or self-cures, for what we have experienced. They help us to get by. But often, what troubles us today is a self-cure that no longer works. It's time to time to try something else.

I am a registered Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) Practitioner Psychologist, and am on the British Psychological Society Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors (RAPPS). I have been in Private Practice in Central London for nine years. Before spending ten years in full-time study and training in London universities and NHS Trusts to qualify as a psychologist, I spent a decade travelling, mainly around Asia, studying Eastern psychology and philosophy. Thus, I have a rich lens of psychological perspectives through which I understand and work with the mind. Psychoanalytic thinking underpins my approach to therapy.

As a doctor of psychoanalytic psychotherapy, I work with a wide range of life issues, with clients at every stage of life, from pregnancy to adulthood: babies, children & adolescents, adults, couples, families and elderly clients.
Life might feel quite unbearable right now. Work and family life may have spiralled out of control. You might be struggling to bond with your new baby, or your young child or teenager is in emotional pain. You may have lost a loved one due to a relationship breaking down or a bereavement. Perhaps your hopes and dreams have been shattered and you are wondering if there is a way out of this dark place. All of the above life events can cause us to feel many confusing emotions such as anxiety, depression or anger. You being here right now is an important step towards changing your situation for the better.

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviours. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behaviour is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
