Coming to counselling for the first time can be daunting and may take some courage. I would like to offer you a safe, confidential, non-judgemental, neutral space to work through difficult feelings, gain insights and help you move forward. It may be separation or loss that has brought you to this point. Perhaps you are suffering from depression, anxiety or relationship difficulties. It may be past traumas that are affecting you. It could be a vague sense of dissatisfaction and a search for a greater sense of meaning that is the source of your discomfort. Whatever the issue, counselling with a skilled counsellor can guide you through

Most people at some point in their lives will struggle with painful feelings or may feel overwhelmed by past or present experiences. These can make us feel lost, anxious, confused, helpless, distressed or angry, sometimes without us knowing why. Counselling is also not just for supporting people through a crisis. Many people come to counselling to explore and get a better understanding of themselves and their lives. Whatever you are experiencing, it can be difficult to explain how we feel to the people who are closest to us. Sometimes it is easier to talk to someone who is separate from your everyday life.

Hello and a warm welcome. Making the decision to see a therapist is a big step, but it can be a positive one. As an experienced, Humanistic Integrative Therapist registered with the BACP, my aim is to be alongside you and listen without judgement, whilst helping you explore at your own pace, whatever difficulties you maybe facing. Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious or depressed? Or perhaps you are experiencing low self esteem, stress or burnout because your work/life balance isn’t what you’d like it to be? Equally, you may want to work through some important life changes and evaluate your next steps.

I work with a broad spectrum of issues; I specialise in those related to maternal and paternal mental health and the changes that pregnancy and parenthood brings, fertility issues, birth trauma, post natal depression.
Therapy is personal journey, unique to you and directed by what you want to achieve; I trained in Relational Transactional Analysis and use this modality to support my clients' growth in self awareness and understanding of the unconscious patterns that have been driving their behaviour. Many clients can't fully articulate what they want from therapy, only that they want things to be different, this is normal, and part of the process of therapy is working with you to discover what you want. On the way we aim to discover what blocks you from achieving your goals and support you in finding new paths to reach your goal.

Additionally, I offer my expertise in the field of stillbirth/miscarriage or loss of baby.
Life today seems to be overloaded by a variety of stress in many spheres of existence. What should be enjoyable and fulfilling sometimes turns out to be the very cause of suffering. In the midst of the busy-ness of life, we do not take the time to address this suffering and instead criticise and blame ourselves or others. This could potentially leave us feeling confused and ashamed. Shame does not heal the pain of suffering. Every human being has a need to be understood, accepted and validated because the human brain is wired to love and be loved.

I am passionate about working with parents as I know how challenging and under-supported parenting is! Perhaps you are struggling to manage your child's difficult behaviour and emotions? Or maybe you are feeling confused by times when your reaction to your child seems disproportionate and out of your control? Perhaps you would like to find more closeness and connection with your child and enjoy parenting more? Maybe you would like to explore the best ways to support your child with their emotions and behaviour in a way that builds their current and future mental health and resilience?

Are you weighed down by anxiety or depression? Perhaps you are going through fertility treatment and you feel an overwhelming mix of emotions - including hope and fear - and you're holding it all together - lots of spinning plates - it feels too much to carry at times. Have you given birth and the birth was difficult and you know that you need to process what happened to you, but at the same time you push the memory away so that you can get through the day - perhaps your body is different, now, since you gave birth? Perhaps you have scars, stretch marks, loose skin, a prolapse? Are you feeling lost and unsure of who you are?

I work with RELATIONSHIP CHALLENGES. So, whether you're: a mother struggling in your relationship with your child or motherhood itself; a couple in crisis; experiencing recurring relationship problems; or still searching for that elusive romantic relationship I’m keen to work with you. I work with both individuals and couples; and I can discuss with you which one of these may be the best fit for you. I find that by exploring your personal history we can often discover the root cause of your challenges so you can begin to enjoy intimacy and connection.

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.
When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.
How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviours. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
