You may be going through a difficult time in your relationship, work, life, feel misunderstood, have anxiety, have experienced grief and loss….
Hi, I am Ella, before I tell you a bit about me, I would like to acknowledge the important step you have taken to find a counsellor. I appreciate that coming to counselling can feel like a really daunting, anxious thing to do which can create a barrier to accessing help sometimes, that’s why it’s important to take your time to find the right counsellor for you.

I am an NMC registered midwife with expertise in grief and loss.
There are many reasons people come to counselling. Life can feel overwhelming and we sometimes feel that we are not coping as well as we might. Do you need a safe, confidential space to be seen and heard? Would you like to explore your feelings and gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your emotions? You may have had counselling or therapy before, or you may be looking at it for the first time. Together, in confidence, we can look at your experiences, your past trauma or adversity and your current challenges.

Taking the step to seek psychological support can be a daunting prospect. Understanding this, I work with clients in a collaborative manner, enabling a safe and helpful environment, so the client feels comfortable enough to share some of their life struggles. I am passionate about adapting psychological therapies so that they are accessible and meaningful. I value a non-stigmatising approach to understand complex mental health issues and see difficulties within a multi-layered context.

These are challenging times and you may have experienced painful life transitions such as bereavement, retirement, divorce or relationship difficulties.
People visit a cousellor in order to feel better about themselves and their lives. I believe it is essential to be able to relate to my client before I can contribute in any way to their well-being. By taking a Humanistic approach and developing an understanding relationship with you I allow you to vent your feelings in order for healing to begin. I can help you in areas such as anxiety, stress, depression, low self-esteem as well as being a valuable resource for self- awareness and development. In a safe and warm environment I work with you to facilitate the changes you seek.

All are welcome, however I have particular experience in working with young adults, and those experiencing change as a result of significant life shift ( bereavement, a new job, leaving home, the end of a relationship), and how that relates to new identities, confidence, autonomy and relationships . I see our minds and emotions as deeply connected to our bodies, our environments and our lived experiences, and bring a whole life attitude to my counselling work. I am LGBTQIA+ friendly, and experienced with neurodivergence.

Maybe the journey isn't about becoming anything. Maybe it's about unbecoming everything that isn't really you, so you can be who you were meant to be all along. Our lives present unique challenges – relationship difficulties, bereavements, life transitions, & chronic symptoms - often creating feelings of frustration, anxiety, & sadness. At such times it is easy to forget that we all need assistance in addressing these challenges, especially as they can often feel overwhelming, or even impossible, to deal with. We all deserve to have support when we are struggling, & often it is specifically this support that allows change to occur.

I'm an integrative relational psychotherapist and I use my experience of talking and relating to you in sessions to understand your way of being in the world, how you make sense of it and how you relate to others. Your journey is unique. Every time I've been listened to and understood I've come away feeling cared for and valued with a new sense of worth. I've learned that change is inevitable and that how I care for myself in the present affects my future.

I am a BACP registered counsellor, deeply passionate about helping people. Through my own personal life experience and mental health challenges, counselling and psychotherapy has given a life perspective I would have never imagined before. I truly believe we each have our own answers, sometimes buried deep within us. Therapy is a process to unearth them - perhaps when they are needed most.

Hello and Welcome, Taking the first step in finding the right therapist for you is not easy and can feel daunting at first. There is often a misunderstanding that you need to be broken or in crisis to have therapy. Let's start by busting this myth! Therapy is not about what is wrong with you, it's about exploring what happened to you. It is about working things out together and enabling you to make positive changes in your life and relationships.

We had no choice in the family we were raised in, so as adults, we continue acting from the same script we did as children. There are many reasons why you may be considering counselling and I offer a safe space in which you can explore who you are and what may be holding you in a place you feel stuck.

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
