Life is hard for many of us and having a safe space to talk and be listened to, without fear of judgement or others opinions being foisted on us, is paramount to our health and well-being. Talking therapies are more relevant today than ever, as many of us are isolated and struggle in our relationships and lives. All types of mental health issues can be helped with psychotherapy. Medication is not the answer for many of us, it doesn’t help us to understand and change our feelings and responses to others. Please call for a free initial telephone consultation

Do you need support because you’re not feeling ok? Are you feeling anxious, low in mood, stressed, sad, angry, fed up or tired? There are times in life when things are really hard and I help people who feel like you to talk about what’s going on in their lives, how they’re feeling and how this affects their day to day. Having someone to talk to about the things that are important to you can feel like releasing a pressure valve or that a weight has been lifted from your shoulders. More inner space allows you access to a greater range of feelings and the ability to think more clearly which can leave you feeling better in yourself.

Asking for help can be hard. You want someone to listen to you, but find the vast listings of counsellors available can make your head spin! My approach is simple. I have a passion for helping individuals and couples reach their full potential. My aim is to help you find a positive outcome no matter what the problem is. No matter how deep you feel you have sunk, there is always a way back up. As it is normal to experience emotional difficulties during life, counselling is one way of supporting you at such times. Some of the ways that couples therapy can work include, identifying toxic relationship patterns and helping couples to work on changing these, bringing a new perspective to issues and helping couples to understand each other's perspectives, finding new ways to resolve conflicts, building trust and improving communication. Most importantly, providing a safe space for both partners to work through their issues.

Most people suffer from psychological, personal, professional or social difficulties at some point in their lives. It is when these difficulties become overwhelming that seeking help from a therapist may be the most positive step forward. Psychotherapy provides a relaxed environment that is safe, confidential and non-judgemental, a space where thoughts and feelings can be explored leading toward a clearer understanding of yourself and your responses to life experiences. This can help to provide you with the tools that will enable you to cope more effectively with everyday life and distressing periods or life-changing events.

Counselling will provide a confidential and non-judgemental environment to allow you to take back control of your life. Counselling will empower you to gain insights and develop coping strategies that are most effective for your specific situations and needs. You can then take these away and enjoy all the things important to you. Every person is unique and different, and I ensure that I work with clients based on this as I do not believe that a blanket approach works. I can help you get in touch with inner child issues such as abandonment, loss, grief, low self-worth, neglect, betrayal, shame and guilt.

I will listen to your story and work with you in a supportive and containing way to make sense of what is currently causing you to feel depressed, anxious, stressed or worried. In validating the importance of your feelings, it helps us to work together to explore and think about possible ways forward.

Understanding what's going on gives us the power to change it. Getting specific about the symptoms and their underlying causes enables us to agree to a course of action with which I can support you. By working with the resources you already possess, change really can happen quickly.

Therapy is a place for you to explore your thoughts and feelings with someone who is trained to listen without judgement. It can be short term for a few sessions or long term and open ended, and is usually for one hour on the same day each week.

Do you have a space in your life to sit, reflect and be truly honest? Are you juggling overwhelming emotions such as anxiety, depression, anger, loss, frustration and you feel alone with your thoughts? Are you struggling to connect with people in your life? Do you feel lost at work or in your home life? Do you tend to self-sabotage or doubt your own ability? Often we choose to invest in our physical health, our home, our lifestyle, hobbies, vacations, but is there sometimes a reluctance to do the same with our mental health? Perhaps hoping the issues will correct themselves?

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Counsellors

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviours. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
