Hi, I'm David. I believe that each person carries an inner fire—a resilient, untamed spark of life that persists through even the darkest times. Sometimes, that fire may feel dim or even hidden under the weight of addiction, anxiety, or despair, but it’s always there. My work is about helping my clients rediscover and reignite their passion, find strengths that may take them by surprise, meaning and purpose where it may seem absent and to take positive, inspired steps toward a more fulfilling, authentic life.

We all carry with us a weight of experience that is repressed, denied, distorted or simply misunderstood. We construct narratives that help us to ignore or avoid the parts of our lives that might be unwelcome or unwanted. We struggle with anger, anxiety, guilt, self-loathing and resentment at a huge personal cost. Through talking, in the presence of real listening, we are able to gently explore the truths that have eluded us and are left feeling lighter. This unfurling of what we truly feel and experience sets in motion the life changing process of becoming; of returning to the person we were all along.

Hello and a warm welcome. I am interested to hear what brings you to counselling. I will offer you a safe space to share your story and to feel listen to. A space where you feel able to say how it is and you feel understood without being judged. I will be genuine and together we can explore your experiences in our sessions. EMDR is another approach I am trained in. I believe in humans' abilities to change, to grow and to heal and I feel positive that counselling can facilitate this.

Good therapy is about change: changing reactions, behaviours, a difficult aspect of self, challenging attitudes/beliefs about yourself or your story. I love working with clients who are prepared to jump in, take risks and seek solutions - this is the way to ensure real change. I will jump in and risk too. I value being human and involved in the therapy and am also practically minded and view the best wisdom as something that can directly be applied to life. A supervisee recently described me as "real, relational, ordinary, practical and not floaty/wispy". I like to incorporate psychoeducation and relevant theoretical information.
